So here are some details...
*He's always trying to be around me during class and volunteers to pass back papers and always stays at my desk longer than other peoples' desks
*He jokes around a lot with me.
*Today we were walking out of class and it was just me and him and he randomly started laughing. I asked him why and he said "nothing," looked at me, then smiled and walked off.
*He's always trying to listen to my friend and I talk in class.
*I catch him stare at me in the corner of my eye.
*He gets close to me sometimes. Like when we walked out of class, he waited for everyone to leave so he can "casually" walk out with me.
*Also, we're interested in a lot of the same things. I really want him to like me back, so I smile and talk to him as much as I can. Am I just imagining things?

ah, to have a crush!...it sounds like he does like you, however the way he's expressing it signals that he would't handel you knowing he likes you and would probably try to lye. if your going to drop the bomb on him that you like him back, ask him for his phone number. if your too shy, when you guys are in class, try to get one of his note books. then if you see him in the halls write him a note with your number on it saying you found one of his notebooks. give him the note and go, don't conversate. if he likes you, he'll call, and try to talk about things other than a missing notebook.

He IS giving you hints... when a guy has a crush on me (at least the ones who have eventually went out with me), he does a lot of those mannerisms you describe. I would give it time and see what happens!
