Singles & Dating - 5 December 2006

I broke up with a girl I was in love with because we were both too emotionally needy and the relationship was too inconsistent, either crazy about each other or driving each other crazy. We were together for 2 1/2 years and I was still in love with her when I broke up with her, though at the time I thought it was the best thing for both of us.

Almost ten years later I still think about her every day and nobody I've met since comes close to measuring up. I've had a bunch of other relationships but never anything with any emotional depth. It's at the point now where I don't even bother dating anymore.

What do I do? I can still get in contact with her if I choose to, and I know a little background on her life because my brother works with her dad. So, I know she's not married or otherwise permanently off the market.

Should I contact her and tell her the whole story? Should I contact her under the guise of just catching up? Suggestions on getting over her without contacting her?

I am a very friendly girl that can be somewhat shy at first. I try to be nice to everyone and I'm always smiling and laughing. Well I don't want my friendliness to be mis-construed as interest or flirting. I don't touch guys, unless they are my friends, but I always keep the proper distance and never say anything overtly flirtatious, however I tend to attract stalker-ish/psychotic-ish type guys (one guy threatened to stalk and kill me) and my friends and family say it is because I am "too friendly/nice." Do guys really take you being friendly or nice as flirting? Because I do not want to not be my real self-yet at the same time I do not want to send the wrong message. By the way I am very modest when I dress..so no sending the wrong message there! ;)

yeah the person who used to be soo sweet once upon a time is behaving weird... he was here in the same town n we used to be like soo close sharing stuff u knw all tht sweet stuff.. n when he left after he ws lik comepletely diff--- doesnt seem lik he remembers ne stuff wich happ here.... i felt soo bad when he left... its been 3 months hes gone.... i used to mail him i never got a reply for the 1st 2 n half months ..i saw him on orkut ..i left him a msg there .. n he mailed me sayin tht hes sorry for not gettin in touch cuz hes really busy n all n tht he misses me etc to forgive him n all... how could he do somehting like this??? im getting depressed ... i dont wanna lose him... i mean we were sooo close---------then y???how do i make him realize wht hes done? i cried n he doesnt even knw a thing!

There was this girl i used to date and makeout with a lot about a year ago... well she fell in love with me then got mad and moved trying to get me to make her stop. well i didn't she moved and we continued to talk... well whenever she came back for holidays and what not we would hook up... she was in love with me for a while but i only liked her... well she was gonna move home in december to be "close to her sister" i think it was really to try and have one more shot at me... but then this guy she was kinda seeing then broke it off with... well he kept on about it... so now she is getting married. well she is gonna move back now a month before he moves here and they get married... so, should i go to her wedding we have a lot of communal friends?

Let's say you and your gf for 3 years broke up 7 months ago and your ex gf just started ignoring you cuz you JUST confessed a couple of lies to her that involves another girl but nothing really bad happened (but of course the gf doesn't know if you're telling the truth about nothing really bad happened) and the fact that you only said "sorry" on the phone. So....every time you see your ex gf you would say "hi" but your ex wouldn't say "hi" back....she ignores you as if she didn't see/hear you. What would you think about your ex gf???????????????? U know how there's a saying, guys think w/their "u know what?" n the girls thinks with their hearts?i really liked this guy (caucasian, 26) and I am asian (25). we spent some amazing time together,he went up to me at the restaurant that he is managing.We had an AMAZING two week together and he told me he really liked me, "but i need to have faith in him and just because one guy messed up, don't judge him because he is a guy" I don't trust men because of my past, my ex cheated and lied to me and i told him.The last few guys i dated before him,i scared off by being non-trusting and clingy,too.So now,apparently I scared off this one too. I was with my bf for 2 years and 8 months, and it's been 7 months since we broke up. He's still always in my mind. I try to fight it and fight my feelings, but it's just sooo hard to get over him? Why is that? I'm the one who cut the relationship but also tried to get back with him and he didn't want to. it is a new relationship, i like the guy but dont want to hurt him, i decided before i met him i wasnt havin more babies, and i just found out im pregnant, have already made a decision without telling him about the pregnancy I think it might hurt him to know about something that he can never hold, on the other hand i dont want to lie to him or be dishonest

I know the obvious answers to this one but please understand.....the last time that happened, I ended up in a long term relationship with an abusive man. (which was also my first relationship, so my sense of perception is a tad warped.) I don't know what "typical" means anymore. Worse yet, I wouldn't know what to do in a situation if a man that I liked was nice, loving and respectful....what would I do or say? I worry that I would start to cry, or Id say the wrong thing or that Id get attached too fast.... Any SERIOUS advice would be sooooo appreciated. For what its worth, I have been doing therapy for 10 months so please dont think that I see these anxieties as normal or healthy. I just need guidance. Thanks in advance.

I had her for a math class, on the last day we looked and smiled at each other, The next tri-mester we are in the same math class again, I sat in the front row, and she comes in and sits next to me out of an entire sort of empty room. She has a gorgeous spanish accent, she's petite and very cute. As a girl who gets hit on often, I've found myself wondering more and more--what is it about a girl that makes men want to flirt with her?

My friends tell me my problem is that I smile too much-- I can't help it, I'm a nice person! But it's gotten so bad that I now greet most males under the age of 40 with a rictus facial twitch, lest they get any ideas about drooling all over me. It seems to work, but I really want to know-- What are the cues that men interpret as, "Take me, I'm yours?"

On a slightly unrelated sidenote, how do men deal with rejection? I always try and be polite, but I tend to shut down some of my more overbearing admirers pretty quickly. I've always felt a little guilty afterwards, but I'd feel less so knowing that men didn't care all that much.
