I broke up with a girl I was in love with because we were both too emotionally needy and the relationship was too inconsistent, either crazy about each other or driving each other crazy. We were together for 2 1/2 years and I was still in love with her when I broke up with her, though at the time I thought it was the best thing for both of us.

Almost ten years later I still think about her every day and nobody I've met since comes close to measuring up. I've had a bunch of other relationships but never anything with any emotional depth. It's at the point now where I don't even bother dating anymore.

What do I do? I can still get in contact with her if I choose to, and I know a little background on her life because my brother works with her dad. So, I know she's not married or otherwise permanently off the market.

Should I contact her and tell her the whole story? Should I contact her under the guise of just catching up? Suggestions on getting over her without contacting her?

Please I beg you don't pass her by. She is probably feeling the same way you are. At least you could go out for coffee and talk and see if there is any spark left.
Okay let me put it in away where I am playing the romantic again...What, just what if she is your true soulmate? Maybe this time you will both be on the same page. As far as not contacting her...why would you do that? You have been thinking about her for 4 years? Pick up the damned telephone...if she is anything like me she is waiting for you to make the first move.

Their can't be any suggestions for getting over her because your not . You said you tried dating other people and that didn't work . The best way of getting over her or getting back with her is to contact her or live the rest of your life thinking of her all the time. To me it seem like you guy broke up over really nothing but you guys were to needy of each other but it's been years now and i bet you guy are a little better with that . i feel your going to loose the love of your life because your trying to force your self not to want her anymore i bet if you call her she still has feelings for you and you guys will get back together . Always go with your heart and don't try to force the love to go away... believe me it's not

People changes over time so you're no different. If you're confident that she's still not attached, no harm calling her to say "hi". Ask her out for a cuppa. Let her know that you still think and miss her and would like to know how she feels for both of you to develop the "lost" relationship.

Tell her everything you just told us. There are a lot of women that will think this gesture is romantic and be willing to give the relationship a second chance.Good Luck.

Go for it man! It's the best thing you can do. You can't wait too long, because if you wait long enough she may find someone. I say that if you truly love her, then get back together with her.
