Plot ratio is the ratio of the land area to the total floor space in a building - also called the Floor Space Index or Floor Area Ratio in the US. It is a measure of density for space. Tall buildings which have a large floor area due to the many floors in the building but a small "footprint" ie built on small plot of land, have high plot ratios. I am looking from a reliable source the average plot ratios for central areas in major cities such as London, NYC, Paris, Barcelona, HK and Singapore etc. Any pointers?

Do you think so many people would be concerned abt them if they weren't so dern cute? What if they looked like big black tarantulas? Would people then take up the cause so readily?

OK.. we are dependant on coal fired power plants. Thats reality.

Most utility compannies should be VERY HAPPY to build new plants and shut down the old ones. The savings in fuel would pay off quickly.

TXU in Texas wanted to build 11 new plants... Environmentalist ad campaigns got the plan reduced to less than half as many. Because the new plants won't be built: old, ineffiient, dirty plants will have to be kept on line for 20 or 30 more years, rather than shut down.

Electric generation companies get bad publicity for not having adequate power production capacity, but when they try to build plants to meet the demand, they get bad publicity.
They get bad publicity for operating plants that produce lots of pollution, but they aren't allowed to build the newer less polluting plants.
They get bad publicity for high energy costs and aren't allowed to build more efficient plants that would allow them to lower the price to the consumer.

Aren't Liberal envirowhackos idiots?

Exxon &Shell has posted record profits of OVER 30 BILLION in 2006.

Billionare Exxon & Shell executives are gouging helpess Americans as they charge over $3 a gallon at the pump, and have made life a living hell for middle class & poor Americans who can no longer afford to pay home heating bills to keep their children warm at night, or pay ridiculous gas prices at the pump.

STOP GOING TO EXXON & SHELL GAS PUMPS, AND SWITCH TO "CITGO" WHICH IS OWNED BY SOUTH AMERICAN LEADER HUGO CHAVEZ TO SAY "NO MORE"!

Average Americans like you and me CAN make a difference--enough is enough! The next time you are driving around, Do Not go to Exxon or Shell gas stations.

ARE YOU WILLING TO BOYCOTT?
I am, and I'm a proud American.
Star this if you'll boycott.

I want to propose the idea of recycling to the company I work for. In my department we throw away a ton of paper everyday and it DRIVES me nuts! Nobody even thinks twice about it. So how can I suggest we recycle and make it sound like a great idea or anything to make them do it. There are about 12 different buildings doing the same amount of wasting I'm sure. I wanted to bring in my own trash can to throw paper in and recycle it myself but I don't think I should have to, or should I? Is it my problem that I am so worried about this or the company I work for? Any ideas to get them to start recycling would be great. We probably throw away a reem of paper a day in my department alone.

My friends and I have our annual tubing/camping trip planned for this weekend. They are paranoid that the river is not going to be deep enough (because it hasn't rained in a while) in places and were going to have to walk down the river banks if the water gets too shallow.

Does anyone know where I could go to look up the river depth for my area (South Alabama, styx river, near Gulf Shores)

Thanks for your answers!

If it is only indoors, when people go outside for a puff where do they put the ciggarette out, because they aren't supposed to drop it anymore are they, even though they do, surely there will be even more cigarette ends on the street if they can't smoke inside ?
Just curious, I'm NOT a smoker and have longed for the time when I no longer have to breath other peoples smoke, but I see people breaking the laws already in place and I wonder how these bans will be enforced?

Our neighborhood has a retention pond for run off water.
Recently a few children (not ours) from the neighborhood decided to take a dip. Now one of them is sick.
So we can better inform our children, what are the dangers of swimming in such a pond?
