Plastic in any form DOES NOT make methane gas. Most are formed from polymers which basically are acid and oil mixed and spun.

Rotting vegetation whether in the ground or in human or animal stomachs does make methane gas in vast quantities.

That is why breaking wind stinks and is flammable.

Its very possible. Also, the most common way of recycling plastic is incinerating. Small amounts of very bed gases, such as methane.
Norway bought the best incinerator in the world, which is producing limit amounts of gases, and it also gives them 90% of electricity, to the whole country!
