I haven't used either of them for years.
Nice to see the younger generation pick-up on ths issues.
I've been an activist and boycotter since before I graduated HS (1967)

Well, I wish i could tell everyone to ride bike. That's what i do. It used to be sort of complicated when i lived in a town that was run by Car Salesmen (no kidding, Car dealers in Miami run a strong lobby against public transportation!!!). But still, i did it. If you can avoid burning gas, why not do it? Now, here in NY, it is way too easy to go around in my bike. It is too easy to say it is a political statement. But still, every once in a while, when the inevitable troglodyte riding a car like a ****** gun happens to almost kill me, i like to spew obscenities condemning them for ruining the planet with all the self righteousness i have left. I like top think that if we progressives were just that outspoken about everything, this would be a different world. Then again.... there are no easy answers. Do remember though, Citgo helps the poor with heating oil. Propaganda or whatever, it is a good thing to do.

If you're going to boycott certain gas stations, do it because the oil companies that own them are funding efforts to spread lies about global warming skepticism. Chevron is the worst violator, and I believe Exxon is another bad one.
Shell, however, is a good company when it comes to investing in alternative fuel technology. I would support Citgo if there were one anywhere around here, but I also support Shell.

So to punish the executives, you want to spend your money at a foreign owned corporation?
All the Americans who work at the american based refineries, the truckers, the Franchised gas station Owners and the people who work those stations and depend on their paychecks from Exxon and Shell to support themselves will be looking at less work? Because you want to send your dollars out of the country? Sounds like the little people will pay the price. Those big executives make more money in interest every year off money they already have than some of us make from our paychecks.
Reduce your dependance on Foriegn Oil and spend your bucks on American products - AND lobby the American companies to switch to more environmentally sound fuel.

Hugo Chavez is controversial in Venezuela - and opposition freedom of speech is apparently not tolerated by him. At least once targeted for a coup, he himself attempted a military coup on a previous president. He has indicated he may seek change to the Venezuela Constitution to allow him to seek re-election for another term in 2012. He has taken steps to protect the poor and indiginous people, has also offered subsidized heating oil for the poor in NYC and possibly Alaska - and frequently acts to ensure villification of his opposition, in a demogogue style. He enjoys victory very publicly, and encourages his supporters to do the same...
I don't want Venezuela's style of democracy, its economy (nasty inflation and unemployment and economic statrification), or Chavez' leadership... and I won't be joining your boycott.
Is making a profit evil? If it is, it's not the only evil.

I'm sorry, but that's stupid.
First of all, the price is so high because we have to buy so much foreign oil (which includes Citgo), and don't have enough refineries in America to handle increased production.
Secondly, the local gas stations buy from their distributor, who buys gasoline from the closest refinery. Many refineries will blend their gas according to the customer, i.e., if it's a Texaco distributor, they add Texaco's additives, and if it's Exxon, they add Exxon's.
If you're a "proud American" like you say you are, you wouldn't let yourself be hoodwinked by Hugo Chavez.

You want us to support Citgo because it's owned by a psycho who has systematically destroyed every democratic institution in Venezuela? By that I can only assume that you share his hatred of democracy and freedom.. which clearly makes your "proud American" claim very suspect.
And FYI Citgo charges the EXACT same amount for gas as every other company.

Check this out!!
http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/gasout.asp
It explains why boycotting gas stations or buying gas on certain days will not work. I wish it were as easy as a boycott but I don't think it's going to be that easy. This is a pretty cool site. It's nice to check out forwards and any little pieces of information that sound too good or too weird to be true. :)

CITGO is charging $3 a gallon just like EXXON and SHELL. Why is it OK for CITGO to do that but not EXXON or SHELL?
