My friends and I have our annual tubing/camping trip planned for this weekend. They are paranoid that the river is not going to be deep enough (because it hasn't rained in a while) in places and were going to have to walk down the river banks if the water gets too shallow.

Does anyone know where I could go to look up the river depth for my area (South Alabama, styx river, near Gulf Shores)

Thanks for your answers!

You can try to call the Alabama Dept of Wildlife and Fisheries, but I would suspect that if the river you float is like any in Mississippi, you will be walking some.

It has been very dry here too and water levels are very low.

google that area and find a river-rafting store - call them and ask them the levels of the river.

Wear good sturdy water shoes, not cheap ones. If you're walking thru low areas, the cheap ones are too thin on the bottom. Some water shoes are better for the beach, not river rafting.

Have fun - we've had so much rain in TX, many of the parks/recreation areas are closed.

Ive been tubing before, and it is FUN!!!! The water will be just fine. The most fun part is the little wave currents that slide you across large flat rocks......:D enjoooy!
