Sounds like a silly question, but I remember as a kid having to go to "the dump" and drop trash off. I never hear about people going to "the dump" anymore.

These bulbs are going to cause more damage when one considers the fact that one of the ingredients to the manufacture of the bulb is mercury. That stuff is dangerous! It can poison you easily. Are lower power bills worth the damage we will be doing to our environment? Also, none of these CF lightbulbs is manufactured here in the States. EVERY last one of them comes from China!

I've tried to google it, but only find basic FAQs, and basically the same public awareness info. Yes, I've been to wiki

do you know of any links and/or info on the production cost and process of the manufacturing of CFL bulbs.

After all, the wealthy can buy their way out of reducing their carbon footprints. So, the net result is, they pay some money, but they haven't helped the environment at all. Those not among the wealthy can't pay the carbon credits so they have to bear a higher portion of the carbon reduction necessary to save the planet.

Example - Al Gore - one of the biggest individual polluters on the planet due to size of home, use of fossil fuels for heat and power, use of water, pollution due to travel, etc. He can live his lifestyle with no adjustments due to paying carbon credits. Joe Shmo, who lives in a 2000 sq. foot house can't afford to pay for carbon credits ... so he has to take a big hit on his lifestyle by shivering in the winter, taking colder showers, using less water, and driving an even smaller car.....

Why not just require the biggest polluters to do more to stop polluting before requiring the smaller polluters to do that?

I just read an article that the promoters of Live Earth were saying that they want to make the concert part of the solution, and that they will be closely monitored for how they handle their power, emissions, etc.

Well, rock concerts are, it seems, a completely unproductive and unnecessary thing. There would be no environmental footprint if they simply didn't have the concert, isn't that true?

Can't they put together a public service announcement? Couldn't each rock star simply go out and spend their time educating individuals in a meaningful way about pollution and other issues? I mean, most of the people at the concerts are not going to be educated there. Why not take these resources, money and voices and put them into real education on the topic?

Where I live we are allowed to mix cans, plastic bottles, paper and carton in the same recycling bags. When the collection comes everything gets thrown in together. Including the newspapers that have been collected seperately in the provided recycling boxes,
Then I caught a conversation on Freecycle where i basically found out that the 'recycled' rubbish is being burnt at a waste-to-energy plant 40 minutes drive away.
Should it not be in breech of the Trade Description Act to call it recycling whilst at the best it could be considered convertion?
