It is manifest destiny that Man shall destroy the earth, so why stand in its way. Let them pave the entire mountain right to the summit and sell stickers at the top.

No big deal. They're taking a dirt road and paving it. They're not increasing the length of the road, which only goes to the lower level of the mountain, miles from the summit.

It's actually a small environmental gain. Dust from dirt roads gets blown into the air. Eventually it tends to wind up in the bottom of streams and rivers, where it chokes things off.
