I'm wondering what we could do as a city (or indaviduals) to get the recycling center to ship all the stuff to a recycling hub where they actually recycle stuff instead of put it in the landfill. Our city recycles a fair bit of stuff (about 1,000 tons of recyclables each year), so we're (the citizens of the city) think that the recycling center is only open for money instead of environmentalism (they get money based on how much material you bring in and drop off (by pounds)). Any ideas? This is a REAL problem because people are starting to stop recycling because it's all just going to the dump anyways.

I am TERRIFIED of mosquitos. Not the little ones, but the HUGE ones as long as an index finger that look kinda like spiders. I left my bedroom window wide open, and one found its way into my room. I saw it, and freaked out and went to go get the Raid. When I walked back in my room, I couldn't find it, and I was exhausted and didn't feel like getting bitten all night, so I slept on the couch. Now I'm kind of afraid to go back into my room, not gonna lie. What's the average lifespan of a mosquito? Is it dead by now?

An eco-cemetery also known as a green burial ground, or a natural burial preserve, is a cemetery where the body is returned to the earth to decompose and recycle naturally, is an environmentally sustainable alternative to existing funeral practices.

This is what I want...I think it would be so much better for the Earth!

Wikipedia- has a lot of info on this just type in ECO- Cemetary.

I remember a biology instructor who told my class back in the '80s that there is a finite amount of water on Earth. Anything you drink has already been drank (and eliminated) by someone else. But I have yet to find any evidence to support this. (I used to tell my ex-wife this every time she drank a glass of water). I've learned that water in the universe is probably made by exploding stars, but is Earth's water replenished?

I read an article on the increase destruction of the forest Yesterday. The article put most of the blame on China, for being the largest consumer of lumber. THe thing I thought was strange, was China was not being blamed for cutting down the trees, and China has a very small domestic market for the wood products. The US and other develop nation are the ones who are recieving the furniture that China makes from the lumber. Who do you think is the most to blame. THe nations responsible for cutting down the trees. The nation who manufacture goods from these trees. Or the nation who recieved the end product.

Personal opinion. We are, we outsource the work to China to avoid getting blame for the environmental damage. We created the demand more so than China did.

I have decided to invest a lot of my free time into helping to fix this planet; environmentally, politically, socially, etc. and I am trying to find an organization where my skills and time will be best spent.

I know of an organization called We, The World which is trying to lay the network to bring together many other 'green' organizations toward the betterment of the world and humankind.

Before I sign up and start investing a lot of my time, I would like to know if anyone out there knows of a better organization to join.

Thank you.

1. What products are out there that will test for a wide array of indoor air quality problems (I'm particularly interested in allergens and aerobiology affecting ashtma symptoms)?

2. Can a lay person test their own home?

3. Is there anything out there that would be re-usable (like an digital meter instead of, say, a petrie dish)?

4. Any other tips for testing?

Please somebody tell me I'm not the only one that loves the cold weather, snow, and all that comes with it. I have no problems to deal with -12F and drive slowly to work even for 6 months a year. And I mean I dont only like the cold when you can stay at home drinking herbal tea and watching TV, I like it aso when I'm outside and its hard to get out of your house or you have a thick layer of ice on your car in the morning. Ok I dont like ice on the ground and me walking on it. What I cant stand is the hot weather, temperatures over 83F, sticky humid weather. Unfortunately I live in Florida. Am I weird? Anybody else like me out there?

I am waking up every morning with TWO spider bites. EVERY DAY! This spider chooses a new juicy area to bite me every night. That means that there is a spider crawling into my bed, and across my body every night.... ughhhhh! My bedroom is NOT filthy dirty or anything, and i have never SEEN the spider/spiders. How can i prevent these spider bites and how can i get rid of them if i don't know where they are???

I haven't heard a peep from any environmental/Global Warming wackos in a while. Did they finally find out how bad the idea was? I haven't heard anything about CFL bulbs either. Remember Libbies, CFL bulbs contain Mercury (imagine the cost of properly disposing them!).
