Do you know of or can you find a better networking organization like http://www.wetheworld.org ?

Question

I have decided to invest a lot of my free time into helping to fix this planet; environmentally, politically, socially, etc. and I am trying to find an organization where my skills and time will be best spent.

I know of an organization called We, The World which is trying to lay the network to bring together many other 'green' organizations toward the betterment of the world and humankind.

Before I sign up and start investing a lot of my time, I would like to know if anyone out there knows of a better organization to join.

I admire your motivation to work on environmental issues, and offer the following suggestions:

1. The "environment" (as you experience it) is LOCAL. Find a local environmental group working to help the environment near where you are. That way you can see more effects of your actions, find neighbors and people locally to be involved with, etc.

2. Think about how *your* actions affect the environment: your driving, your housing, your lifestyle, your diet. (One thing I did 35 years ago to help the environment was become a vegetarian - it hasn't saved the world yet, but it's been a worthwhile long-term contribution - saves money too :-)

3. Check out these two outstanding organizations Environmental Defense (ED) and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). These groups combine science, economics, and law to work for better environmental policy in the US and worldwide. They've been effective because they routinely go to court and sue the government or corporations when environmentally bad decisions are made.

Sorry, I have no knowledge about We, the World. Perhaps they're a great group to throw your energies behind. I also suggest looking at the BIG picture eyes wide open rather than through the lens of any particular group.
