To elaborate:

In the state of Massachusetts, a certain brand drink may not have any deposit return. And therefore, these bottles/cans will not be accepted by the bottle return machines in any supermarket (the most common of places to have these machines).

I do NOT want the money I receive from the bottle deposit. I'm just curious how I can go about recycling bottles/cans that won't be accepted by these machines.

It seems like other bottle recycling recepticles are few and far apart. Is there some simple way to resolve my dilemma? Do I need to drive miles and miles to throw away bottles/cans that the supermarket won't take?

This feels like a basic recycling question. Please be thorough...links are appreciated

Our professional singing group puts on concerts for the benefit of various charities. In the past we have donated receipts to organizations providing relief in Darfur, and we are currently working on a concert set next month in support of the Global Aids Interfaith Alliance. For the next set, in November, we want to support an environmental group, possibly one dealing with global warming.

I believe just so you know and the rules are:
1. No mention of Al Gore or his planes why you ask because other countries believe also so he isn't the only person who matters, he actually is scamming for money but he is scamming with a real live issue (at least I believe so, scientist believed before he did), and just because he uses energy doesn't prove global warming wrong it only proves that he is the equivelent of a preacher with a prostitute.
2. No being a jerk calling people stupid and such will not help
3. Use science and history as your arguments. Only use politics if you have real reason to

If climate change is a very important issue, which I believe it is weather its occuring right now or not, what is preventing scientists from thoroughly understanding it. I know that the chemistry and physics of the atmosphere is complex, but It doesn't seem right that todays scientists are unable to understand the determining factors of climate well enough to reach a conclusion (within the scientific community) on how the climate would/will change under specified conditions. Is there actually a detailed, widely accepted theory on climate change.

I was watching Discovery. It was a program by scientists that study and measure the rate of glacier loss in northern Canada. They said none of the glaciers were there 5000-10000 years ago because they melt down, then build back up over and over. They showed where Glaciers were melting and where they had made canyons before in the Rockies. They said it was natural.

It might be possible. If they can put giant mirrors in our atmosphere to reflect most of the sunrays to keep most of the heat of the sun from reaching us, why not pump air polution out beyond our atmosphere?

So, if you look at it through a long distanced telescope, from high above ... the lovely planet Earth is crawling with parasites who feed from her and drain her. She tries to get rid of them by using earthquakes and hurricanes and whatever to drown them or kill them off.
But they keep on increasing in number.
Some she doesn't mind - trees and certain plants actually give her a good massage under her skin. But one parasite is becoming too expansive and dangerous.
Would that be humans?
Has anyone else ever looked at it this way, or is it just me and Riff-Raff?

I have seen several articles and models now that try to pin down what percentage of the greenhouse effect can be pinned down to what gas.

This article is as good as any of them:
http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=142

Notice it says water vapour could account for 36 percent of the effect up to 66 percent (not including clouds). This is a rather staggering uncertainty. Also, this is only the variance that could be argued for water vapour. The cumulative statistical uncertainty is higher if you include the other greenhouse gases. If other scientists in other fields formed conclusions based off of numbers that were that uncertain then I think they would have a lot to answer for.

Can someone tell me if these numbers are true and why many climatologists are so sure about what is happening with global warming if these numbers are true?

As always, this is not meant to take sides but to better understand the issue. Sources are always a plus.

I do not drive nor do I own a vehicle. I am a native resident of NYC and never had the need. Recently, I see a trend developing of people giving up their cars and using public transportation. For those that have made this choice, what was your reasoning? Was it financial, environmental or something else?

this is NOT an essay but i would appreciate if you gave well thought responses.

what are your thoughts on global warming? what do you think we should do? what are some things that happen because of it?

if you DONT care about it, why? what would get you to realize the effects? who should take care of it? what will get you motivated to help the cause?

what is your position? are you willing to help change the earth? or are you going to sit around and wait for the end to come?

why is it SO important that we work on decreasing effects of global warming?

and finally...
what would convince you to do something about it?
what do you need to fully understand the problem? by the time everyone sees it, it will be to late. why do we need to act NOW?

your thoughts are GREATLY appreciated

I read somewhere that the Saudi flares burning off natural gas from their wells is the brightest single light on the planet. Must be lots and lots of CO2 and H2O generated by such a massive set of flames.

Yet I never hear a peep about this waste of energy and source of "Greenhouse Gases".

Many winters I hear of folks in the USA freezing because of insufficient supplies of Natural Gas for heating, yet we do not bring it over in liquid form so we have sufficient to keep our population warm at times. Or are our leaders counting on Global Warming to eliminate the need for heating?

When a natural resource is being wasted, and "polluting" the atmosphere, where are the protests from the Climatologists, the Ecologists, and the Global Warming warning preachers? Does money talk that loudly to them?

And why does the UN Consensus not hit terrorists who release gases too?

Maybe we need a televised concert thrown downwind of the flared-off gas? Save money on lighting, especially at night!

For every gallon of paint, there is 1/3 gallon of drinking water, ( 1/2 a billion gallons a year wasted) for every gallon of Anti-Freeze, there is 1/2 gallon of Drinking Water, ( 1/2 a Billion Gallons a year wasted) For every Gallon of ?, startfilling in your ideas. just imagine how many products are made with Drinking Water that can be replaced with Recycled Water, Recycled water quality that has been used for decades to irrigate our edible food crops. The Federal Recycled Water Quality Standards, assure that the Class A ( abundant) Grade is suitable for these products and more. This is a Common sense approach to Water Conservation. But, Big Business has the spigot, and Drinking water is the least exensive part of their products cost, they will not consider change unless the public becomes aware of it and voices their opinion.

There seems to be a lot of people who think it's just transferring energy from cars to the grid. If it was a 1 to 1 correllation, why not just use gas generators instead of the grid? See how silly? Plus think of all the stuff made overseas that we wouldn't have to buy to maintain them, and the net energy gain therein. Yes, there are problems - it still costs energy to make electric cars, and battery tech is still not as environmentally friendly as we want... Still not enough reason not to try IMO, prove me wrong.

I think there are a number of reasons

Recording the temperature data is by far the easiest and least complext thing about studying climate and yet scientist managed to screw it up.

The fact that 1934 was the hottest on record shows that temperatures have spiked this high before the rapid industrialization following WWII

Shows how foolish the MSM was to trumpet an insignificant data set to push the Global Warming agenda, and then have it thrown right back in their faces.
