Honey bees generally only sting to protect their hives. The bees that are capable of stinging are the female worker bees. Bee stingers are barbed and, after being thrust into the skin, are left in the skin but are pulled out of the abdomen of the bee. Poison sacs are attacked to the stinger and pump poison into the wound. Some people are very allergic to the poison and must be taken to the hospital. Others can get by with applying ice packs, calamine lotion, or taking antihistimines. The bee dies after losing its stinger, but you probably won't!

It depends on the species of bee, but generally, yes.

The sting has barbs on it that keep it in your skin, and when the bee leaves, it leaves the sting behind, with a poison sac attached, and that basically rips the bee's guts out.

It can survive a few hours after that, but they're generally pretty docile, and don't feel like flying anywhere.

Yes it is true. The female honeybees die after the sting. When the barbed stinger is left inside the victim the honeybee tears out her abdomen when pulling out of the victim and hence she dies. The honeybee is a docile bee and only stings when provoked and only dies stinging mammals because of the thickness of the skin - they can bite others insects without death being the result.

If the bee is a worker bee, it will die after it stings someone and if it is a queen bee, it may live after stinging someone.

That is the truth.. unfortunately. Bees die after they have stung you. Wasps can stab you as many times as they like because, unlike bees, their stings do not have barbs.
