I have multiple options at work: I can use paper towels, which are made from recycled material, I can use an electrical hand dryer or I can use fabric towel from a dispenser roll. All these modes create a certain level of impact on the environment, from the production over maintenance to disposal. Which one does the least amount of damage to our lovely planet?

Does anyone know if there are any environmental benifits to shopping in the clearance section of a store? Thrift store shopping is clearly an environmental practice, as it re-uses products that would otherwise be at the end of their life. What about the clearance rack? They drop the prices because an item is not selling usualy, so by buying them are we rescuing them from the dumpster?

Just wondering if my frugality could also be an environmental habit, or if I'm just saving money.

The builder has left woods consisting of tall brush and upwards of 20, 80-100 foot tall pine trees, behind my house. These woods are only 7 feet from my house, and I feel like I need to wear a hard hat when the pine cones come down from 100' above. I feel the woods are a fire hazard, hurricane hazard, as well as the hazards of falling branches and pine cones. The builder claims these are protected wetlands and cannot be disturbed.
How can I find out if what the builder says is true, and if there is anything that can be done regardless, considering that these trees are so hazardous?

I love fireworks as much as the next guy, but I have to wonder -- are they bad for the planet? Are there statistics that show what kind of effect fireworks have on the air?

the ocean collects 50% of all carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. a small overbalance of carbon in the ocean can support massive growths of algae, and thus supporting massive bursts of decomposer's, witch in turn depleted the ocean of nutrients and destroy the ocean ecosystem.

chew on that for a while.

I have a big screen TV that doesn't work anymore. The circuit Board is pretty much shot, but I wanted to take somewhere where parts (such as copper, gold plated pieces, and metal) can be salvaged for new things. Anyone know where I send it? And hopefully get some money out of it?

When considering the best tools for conservationists to use, which method will protect more species more efficiently? Should the entire ecosystem be protected or should conservation efforts be directed at the specific species? Also, what about the top-down idea of protecting the predator, and in turn protecting its habitat and the entire ecosystem.

I'm just curious to see other point of views and management strategies. Thanks.

Go to my question about people being able to stop the changing planet and read the first answer in full. Then come back and tell me your thoughts.

If you have trouble finding the question it's the one just before this one.

Like many people, I am trying to go green and switch to florescent lights. However, I know that some people have neurological reactions to these lights, such as headaches or even seizures.
I wonder if fish can be affected badly too.
Before I switch to the more eco-friendly lights for my goldfish, I wonder if anyone knows if any studies have been done on the effects that florescent lights have on aquatic animals.
If anyone here knows of any websites on such a study that would be most appreciated.

My friend and I are debating about which is safer. If a plane crashes into an extreamly tall building, is it better to be on the top or bottom floor? I think top because then you can get out faster. She thinks top because then you would fall on stuff and stuff wouldnt fall on you. Which one is safer?

a month for natural gas even if you don't use any? This might only be a thing that occurs with my utlility company, just realized this today, while looking at my utility bill.
Gas meter reading was the same as last month, but it still costed me $14.
No wonder utilities are a gold mine, now they are trying to make them into a get-rich quick scheme.

Mr Gore argues that if he had made it to the White House, he would have been able to use the office as a "bully pulpit" to achieve change.

Man, did we ever dodge a bullet!!

My son and I have this environmental battle going on. I'm telling him to use a regular plate to eat his meals and then wash it.
He says he rather use a styrofoam plate since less water is needed to produce a styrofoam plate than to wash a regular one.
Is he right or just lazy??
