First, contact your state Oil and Gas board to see what wells are within (say) a 10 mile radius of your property, and what wells have been abandoned near your property.

If there are wells near and/or close to your property, you may have a chance.

Then, see if they (the Oil and Gas Board) has a listing of companies in the state that are actively drilling.

Those are the guys you need to contact.

Forget about Chevron and the biggies. You need the small independent guy.

Otherwise, find a licensed Petroleum Geologist in your state and pay him to evaluate your property.

Do you have mineral rights to your property?

Many people that own property do not have rights to the minerals!

Wish I could help better.
