Did anyone do the go green promotion with Yahoo and actually receive their free light bulbs and free tote? When are you supposed to get them? And please don't say anything about not using them because of the mercury...I have already read all the posts about them. Thanks.

"american_wardog" posted a little while ago about a water bottle ban in San Francisco. That got me looking at the story about SF banning plastic bags. Of course as someone else commented on that story, banning the bags is a band aid solution and if widely used will just put us back to deforesting our country to make paper.
Here is an idea.
City and state governments can offer a tax reduction for stores that participate. Stores sell cloth bags that could have the business logo. They offer a small percentage off for people who use their particular cloth bag and they are also required to collect a tax for anyone who doesn’t have a bag and uses plastic or paper.
It would not be that difficult or inconvenient to carry a few cloth bags when you go shopping. No more need for oil to make plastic bags and no need to cut down trees for paper. Since the bags would be used over and over the resources required are less and there’s less trash.
Recycling good, not creating trash better.

If the ice caps melt, that will leave more surface area covered in water which will evaporate faster because of the increased temperatures. the evaporation will form into clouds which will block the sunlight from getting through, thus lowering the air temperature, and causing the moisture to fall as snow, cooling the surface even more so that the surface water will freeze and reflect too much sunlight back into space causing the temperatures to plunge. Am I right in this supposition?

A common argument made by GW skeptics is that the planet has only warmed 1 degree C over the past century (0.6 degrees in the past 50 years), and that's not a big deal.

A study by Dr. Perry of the UK Meteorological Office found that a further 2.1 degree C rise will expose between 2.3 and 3 billion people (35-50% of the world's population) to water shortages.

2 degree warming will cause 97% of the world's coral reefs to bleach (die) which will have many negative consequences.

Researchers on 5 continents found that if temperatures rise to the average IPCC estimate (~3.6 deg. C over the century), 15-37% of the world's species will be 'committed to extinction' by 2050.

Considering how much damage a 2 degree warming will cause, how can you argue that a 1 degree warming is trivial?

In 2004 an article in Science magazine discussed a study by Prof. Naomi Oreskes in which she surveyed 928 scientific journal articles that matched the search [global climate change] at the ISI Web of Science. Of these, according to Oreskes, 75% agreed with the consensus view (either implicitly or explicitly), 25% took no stand one way or the other, and none rejected the consensus.

Benny Peiser attempted to replicate the study, and found 34 articles that "reject or doubt" the consensus view--that is, 3% rather than the 0% that Oreskes found in her sample. Only 1 of those papers actually rejected the consensus, and it was an editorial, not a research paper.

Another guy did a similar small study of 25 papers to verify the claims, and found 20% explicitly endorsed, 84% explicitly or implicitly endorsed, 16% were neutral, and none rejected the consensus position.

Since no research papers rejected the 'consensus', how is that not a consensus?

My question discounts whether human pollution causes global warming .....or not.

My question was wouldn't any sensible person conclude that pollution is NOT DOING THE EARTH ANY GOOD and therefore needs sensible consideration and remedy?

I illustrated this concept. so any simpleton can understand it, by comparing pollution to cigarette smoking, which many people contend does not cause cancer or lung disease, .But sure as hell doesn't do you any good. Wouldn't it be safer and smarter to not smoke, no matter what?

Any of you care to argue that cigarettes are good for you?

Jeeeezus..can't you people read?.

The amount of chemicals used to maintain them are excessive, often extreme and the amount of water used in areas which cannot afford the loss begs the above question. I know they're pretty and they bring in 'revenue', but can't folks learn how to play on a medium which does not require so much loss?

Conserva...tion....conserva--tive.

Try to use a little common sense and logic.

Think of pollution like smoking cigarettes.

You can't prove smoking causes lung cancer (maybe it does) but it sure as hell doesn't do your lungs and body any good.

You can't prove pollution contributes to global warming (maybe it does) but it sure as hell doesn't do the Earth any good.

Only a stupid person would insist otherwise.

There was a report on Yahoo news about a P-38 fighter plane that was salvaged 50 years after it crashed in Greenland. It was covered by 250 feet of ice. Now I'm just a dumb redneck, but that figures to 5' of ice a year. Doesn't that go against the conventional wisdom of Global warming? Shouldn't the ice have been receeding on Greenland?

I was wondering if it wold be possible to rig up a mini wind turbine on the top of a camper van so that when you are driving it would create energy to store in a battery.

Or would the extra energy needed to drive the van due, to the drag from the, any energy made by the turbine?

If so can you get mini camping turbines?

Thanks,
Martin.
