Seriously, could methane hydrates (also known as clathrates) cause a global warming trend that wipes out something like 90% of all life on earth?

I know that there are a lot of people who think that it's "junk science", but is it true? It has been suggested that a methane release caused the Permian extinction, but could it happen today? And just how much methane hydrate is a the bottom of the oceans?

On one hand, you have the fear that global warming will disable the thermohaline currents by adding too much fresh water into the ocean and cause a new Ice Age by weakening the ocean currents ... and other the other, you have a massive global warming trend caused by release of methane hydrates. Which one is the truth? Or is there too little scientific information to tell?

That programme advertised (I only stomached the advert, not the programme), implying religion as a matter of course has the answers. I don't think religions have those answers.

All plant oraganisims need photosynthesis to create their food and in that process, they need carbon dioxide. In theroy, for me, the plants are actually helping us deplete the amount of carbon dioxide in the air ( for people who don't know carbon dioxide is a green house gas causing global warming). We humans are actually killing our allies in the war against Global Warming!!!

P.S.- Please corrct me if I've missed something or am wrong.

Thanks...

I think it's completely stupid, because it messes up peoples' sleep patterns, and it drastically changes sunset times, especially in places like Alaska, where the length of days changes very quickly anyway. Do you think the time change is good or bad?

The government supposedly moved up daylight savings because the idea is that the more sunlight, the lower energy cosumption. Is this reasoning just that lights will not need to be turned on for an extra hour? What about idea that air conditioners will run more when the sun is out?
