I would think lots of ways.

First refined oil is burned in cars, home heating, trucks, etc which pollutes the air.

To be used in cars trucks, etc, oil had to be refined and refineries are polluters of the air. The burn oil during the refining process. They are also hydrocarbon emissions.

The oil itself evaporates putting hydrocarbons into the air. Another source of pollution.
