What do you think about Global Warming. I believe that the whole thing is one big scam and that Al Gore is using it as a money maker!! What kind of cruel person would do that. I DON'T believe in it at all, but what do you guys think about it?

Well, I believe in half of what you say. First off, Global Warming is happening. There is scientific evidence that temperatures are rising. However, people like Al Gore are making way too big a deal of it. They make it seem like everyone is going to die tommorow. They need to realize that rising temperatures are a naturally occuring process. Temperatures rose like they are rising today back when there was an ice age. So whether we are on the brink of another ice age or killing off all humanity, we will have to wait and see.

GW is far beyond what most people are talking about. If you read up on CFC's, you will learn we humans are causing it and have done so since creating these chimicals. But we can fix this. To that end I sent this letter to Al Gore:

Putting the technology together to start cleaning up and reintroducing new ozone to the atmosphere is possible. The cost and size of this project means taking a long term commitment. I am proposing the biggest cleanup in history. Al, I do not see any proposal that is realistic or proven at any cost, not even Washington can solve this problem. But if every person on earth does his or her share, we may be ok. Never-the-less, I see governments acting like a deer in a car’s headlights and people doing the same thing. The inevitable is almost upon us. Cleanup and change is the only option.
The first cleanup machine starts with a ten billion dollars investment. Ten year later with twenty-five machines operating, these machines will produce enough ozone to replace both holes at the poles. But more importantly, these machines will remove chemicals that deplete the ozone. Beyond making ozone, decreasing the poisons that deplete ozone, these machines reduce the major greenhouse gases and unbelievably we can have all this for fewer than one hundred billion dollars.
Beyond cleaning up our atmospheric mess as I am suggesting, we humans must do a better job reducing or cleaning up carbon monoxide, collecting and storing methane and ethane for fuel, burning less of everything, cleaning up our forests and using more solar insolation. Solar steam electric generators are the type of systems we need and are 90 percent efficient and near 100 percent if heat recovery is used. I believe nearly 30,000 MW are needed in the USA and Mexico over the next 30 years. This opens the door to new electric cars, new construction vital to our way of life, new bullet trains, and these industries produce new high paying jobs. From small scale solar generators on malls, to 2000 acre collector sights, these systems are viable and ready for production. The Federal Government must give up some land, money and have less regulation to help save the planet from disaster.
Al, spreading the message that we can help ourselves is a key to the development of these businesses. Washington can help: the businesses need grants, patents, land and regulations. Congress must create a pollution surcharge. From gas, coal, diesel, wood to cooling towers, from cattle, other ranches to cigarettes, from agriculture burning to airplane passengers, this surcharge can fund parts of these projects and many stationary pollution control devices in general.
Your personal support is very important to getting the atmosphere cleanup started and developing sights for solar generators.

Sincerely,

Dangerous thing. Consider what would happen without environmental laws today? There would be huge amount of chemicals being poured into our rivers. Cancer rates and birth defects would soar. And ... the corporations would work very hard to deny it.

The truth is global warming denial or "brownlash" is funded by people who are interested in short term financial gain. Most of these people do not have much scientific knowledge.

Even the most anti-environmental person ever would have to admit that the environmental laws today have gone a long way to improving health of our society. If you don't believe me ... visit developing nations. Some of them are filled with toxic waste dumps and many of their rivers are toxic. This is because of the lack of environmental regulations there.

But ... we are not doing enough today, and that is the problem.

I imagine you are doing this to bait some ofthe left-wingers to get them to rant.

Well, I'm a left winger but I won't rant here. I will give you a well reasoned response though.

Global warming is real. Just pick up ANY reputable scientific periodical (Science, Nature, Scientific American, etc.) and that is completely obvious. There is an enormous body of data to support the finding that the average surface temperature is rising. There is really no credible argument against global warming, only empty rhetoric and angry chest pounding.

A lot of people want to politicize this because they either hate the environmental movement (right wingers) or they want to excoriate the current government leadership (left wingers). Either way, it doesn't matter what people's motives are, global warming is real.

Reality is reality whether you want to accept it or not, and eventually eveyone will have to accept it because of the very significant lifestyle changes that will have to happen out of necessity. The change in climate and subsequent loss of farm land, living space, etc. is going to cause a lot of troubles for future generations, there is no doubt about that. The only thing in doubt at this point is how well humanity is going to prepare for those changes. Right now, everyone wants to procrastinate and argue instead of doing the responsible thing and making preparations.

In terms of morality, it seems to me that anyone who denies global warming in the face of overwhelming evidence has an alarming lack of conscience, or is happy being ignorant of basic science. If there was a 50/50 chance that your actions today could significantly damage the quality of life for your children, would you continue to act in the same old fashion? Most people would not, they would want to give their kids the best chance possible, so they would try to act in such a way as to better those odds or at least mitigate the possible damage. That is really what Al Gore and others are trying to do, minimize the impact on future generations.

Also, the perception that switching to renewable energy is going to bankrupt the economy is just laughably false. Commerical scale wind power costs about $0.045/kWhr, versus about $0.035/kWhr for conventional (coal) power. Yeah, that's about 30% more. But isn't that a small price to pay to see to it that your kids and grandkids breathe clean air and don't have nearly the same worries about pollution, global warming, etc ? Environmentalism is NOT about saving trees, it is about preserving the earth so that future generations can live healthy lives. Saving trees, clean energy, etc. are all part of achieving that larger goal of making life more liveable for all.

That's my take...

Global warming is said to be a myth dreamed up by a bunch of eco activists, liers and weathermen the truth is it is happening as a result of mans greedy nature we ourselves have harmed our earths environment to the extent that the lst six years have seen the five warmest years on record. our ozone layer is being destroyed allowing harmful rays from the sun in. To combat this we need to stop wasting our earths resources and educate commmunities to recycle, reuse, and reduce. Our governments also need to be held accountable for the damage done to the environment and
reduce gas emitions into the atmosphere.
The onl people with anthing to loose are the governments responsile for global warming the greatest scam is made y those who told us for ears thatr it did not exist.when we could have done something aout it, now it maybe to late

I think it's happening.

How else would you explain all the sudden changes in the weather? Pollution and all the chemicals and toxins are being mixed into the air, resulting in global warming.
If only people would realize it, then maybe the world can be saved. There's always a possibility.

Yeah. Al Gore is pretty gay and he's doing it for his ego but I'm pretty sure that it's happening. Just no time too soon...

Is global warming a man-made menace?

not all there are natural cycles in the planets life
but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms

some home truths

politicians and scientists who work for politicians have downplayed the facts because solutions are expensive and means change and change effects many people income, and most of the world is kept in the dark of the real things that are going on.

in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification

in recent times thousands of people have died because of exessive heat, usually old people.in India ,Mexico and France,
deforestation causing desertification, the desert conditions causing very cold nights and scorching hot days

in china, thousands of what used to be farmers are running for their lives from the dust storms that have burried their towns and turned their lands into dessert, the globe where they were got to hot for them .
and instead of producing food they are now needing it from some where else, and they will drastically effect the world food prices when they start buying water in the form of grains ,at any cost destabalising governments, in some countries ,could be the result
(are you seeing more Chinese around interested in agricultural lands ,we do here in Mexico)

,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year
and all of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were no desserts.

collectively this planet is drying up because of bad farming practices like, over grazing and fertilizers,

as far as the food production is concerned, Global warming or some of its effects are serious, rising seas result in landloss

each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss

more landloss because of desertification every year,we have less areble land to produce food ,for an extra 70 million people ,

and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,
and there are less and less farmers to do it..
who are overpumping deep carbon aquifiers
who are plowing more and more unstable lands because they have lost so many million hectares to desertification ,
because of bad farming practises ,such as using fertilizers and heavy machinary or over grazing

RISING SEAS
The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.
this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter.

Global warming is in theory reversable, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,

At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where.

SOLUTIONS
if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes

reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.

the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.

the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia

Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.

the protection of existing forrests.

stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.

education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.

education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´populaion

Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.

more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks

,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour

alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

recicling wastes,limit water use
