Their primary component is a nasty chemical called dihydrogen monoxide, which is known to be the primary component of acid rain. You mean contrails? The contrails behind airliners is just condensed/solidified water.

The chem-trails you see behind aerobatic planes, parachutists, etc. on a not-so-everyday basis is made by Titanium Tetrachloride. The TiCl4 reacts with atmospheric water vapor to form HCl and TiO2; what you see is the TiO2 (titanium dioxide) particles. I honestly have no idea why a parachutist would want to risk breathing in concentrated HCl just so that their landings seem more "exciting" is beyond me.
