I really am a horrible singer. My friends have told me to shut up and I really wanna sing good. I've heard that you are just born with a voice to sing, but I NEED to get better! There is a chorus tryout thing in my school and I am afraid that they won't chose me. I sing like a squeaky mouse, I tell you!

I've admired Vanessa Hudgen's voice (her voice and how she looks, not the nasty thing she has done) a lot. I also know that when I sing good, I must put in some of my own style.

Do any of you know any good vocalization tips, if I can really get better, and if I will ever even a TINY bit sound like Vanessa?

I am 11 by the way, and I am thinking that the earlier I start singing practice to get a lot better, the better I will be in the future.

So I do death metal vocals a la Arch Enemy/Devil Driver.

My family, particularly my mother hates it and think it's demonic.

How do I practice while still living under the same roof? I don't want to be admitted to a therapist or something because they think I'm possesed...

Ive been singing since i could talk pretty much (im 16) I already have a good voice (not bragging) but i want to get better. I also want to get over being self consious about my voice. Will they criticize me and put me down if i cant hit a low note?? Im normally shy but i dont want to be shy about this because i want to get serious about singing.

people are amazed when i play an instrument
but when I sing they just start cracking up laughing

Confidence is not the problem
Ive embarrassed plenty of times thinking I could just belt out a tune just because I felt the passion for it but it just comes out like a dying cat

While shifting to head voice from middle voice, in mouth, nose, throat, where do we feel the difference? Or what exactly should be used while doing this?To be able to sing in higher octave, which exercise should i do? Please write in detail as i am a learner. My age is 35. Also all time throat needs to be cleared. Can any one say about thieve's oil? Is it effective in clearing throat? How?

How do you make you voice vibrate? I know, but it isn't very strong. I wonder how d'you describe that, but it's not laughing, my sounding thingy can make my voice vibrate but often covered by music.

Hello,
I have an audition that I really can't miss coming up in the next two weeks but I also don't want to ruin my reputation as a singer. I should know the answer to this but sometimes even a professional needs someone else's advice. I've been working on 'Sempre Libera' (as anyone knows it is EXTREMELY difficult under the best of circumstances) and have developed a terrible cold. I know I can't take the 2 weeks off entirely but I also haven't had the opportunity to work a few small things into my piece. Anyone been through this? I have no high notes at this time, obviously. I don't know. Have you ever had to prepare these conditions because I've been fortunate enough not to have to. Thank you so much.

Also, my voice teacher died and I have not been able to find anyone of her caliber so I'm looking at a relocation as the nearest qualified teacher is 4 hours from me.

And is rap music really "singing"? Think of all the talentless saps who cannot sing but they can remember rhymes and talk to the rhythm of the beat. BRILLIANT! Just BRILLIANT!

We've had rap around for so long now, I think there is a conspiracy amongst the rap community to keep it going as an "art form" because without it, they'd have to learn how to really sing or do something else.

I like some rap music. I really do. I've been a DJ at a major urban station where rap was a staple. But it's been DECADES now, people! When will this music style be replaced by something much better? It's because rap is more about attitude and lyrics than it is about being able to carry a real tune. So if anyone can do it, it remains present on the music landscape as the lowest common denominator.

Oh for a return to the mentality when real singing talent versus posturing and faking it, ruled the day!

I just found out I have have a deviated-septum. I am a professional singer and I'm wondering if having surgery to correct the septum will change my tone or resonance. My doctor said it's minimally invasive, it won't change anthing about the shape of my nose, just make it easier for me to breathe.
Does anyone know if surgery will effect my singing?

I couldn't type some of the special letters (like o with a ` on top) and replaced them with the closest letter...so please forgive me. It's a song by the Italian composer Bellini and the tune is beautiful. Only thing is I don't understand most of what I'm trying to sing...lol. Online dictionaries aren't helping a whole lot, obviously. Thanks!
