Hello,
I have an audition that I really can't miss coming up in the next two weeks but I also don't want to ruin my reputation as a singer. I should know the answer to this but sometimes even a professional needs someone else's advice. I've been working on 'Sempre Libera' (as anyone knows it is EXTREMELY difficult under the best of circumstances) and have developed a terrible cold. I know I can't take the 2 weeks off entirely but I also haven't had the opportunity to work a few small things into my piece. Anyone been through this? I have no high notes at this time, obviously. I don't know. Have you ever had to prepare these conditions because I've been fortunate enough not to have to. Thank you so much.

Also, my voice teacher died and I have not been able to find anyone of her caliber so I'm looking at a relocation as the nearest qualified teacher is 4 hours from me.

Thanks adv. I'm seeing my naturopath tomorrow and have a lovely Eastern Medicine office right down the street. I hadn't thought of acupuncture for the voice. Why not?

Several years ago I developed bronchitis just before a major performance. My voice coach suggested acupuncture. At the time I thought that was a ridiculous suggestion, but was desperate enough, I gave it a try. I went the day before my performance and was in full voice when the curtain opened. To my astonishment, it worked like a charm.

I learned never to doubt my coaches recommendations. To this day I have a hard time believing it worked, but would do it again, in a heart beat.

Give it a try. I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised. With two weeks to go, you'll have time for a couple of treatments and time to rehearse.

i wish that i could give you some good advice, but the only thing i can say is...

echinacea
golden seal
extra vit. c
chamomile tea with honey

these might help you get over your cold a little more quickly.

i don't know anything about singing, so no help there, sorry.

good luck with your audition.
