I have a B.S. in Animal Science and passed my state's teacher licensure test for Biology. Now what? I have no experience teaching except as a teacher's assistent in college (which I loved!). What's a good way to gain experience in a short time or would I be better off getting another degree? Science teachers are in high demand here, I shouldn't have trouble getting a job, right? Any advice from teachers who didn't take the traditional route?

I am going to create a scrapbook out of pages with the letters of the alphabet and things colored, glued, painted or stamped on them. I will be gluing red ribbon on a letter "R" for instance. I need ideas for small objects that begin with the following letters,
e, j, i, l, o, q, u, v, x, z,

I am also going to fill a basket with small objects that begin with these letters, I will have a small bag of acorns, some apples and such in a basket on the day we learn about the letter "A". I need ideas on things around the house and inexpensive items to fill my basket with each day, for all letters.

We will be reading a storybook each day that contains something that begins with our letter of the day.

I will be teaching a homeschooled co-op group and time is limited as is their attention span so nothing incredibly tedious or time consuming.

Thanks so much!!

I am a PreK teacher. In my class I have one child that absolutely drives me insane!!! He REFUSES to listen to me. He bites and spits on the other children. When I put him in time out he throws himself on the floor and kicks and screams. I have tried everything. I have tried rewards through out the day, positive feedback, reinforcement. It is wearing me out. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I taught second grade for two years and lost my job in May due to a budget cut. My county was so good to me that they gave me a position at the last minute. It is teaching reading to middle school and high school students. I am not certified in those grades, but maybe I don't have to be. I did not ask, but they know my credentials as I worked for that school system already two years. Anyway, I have been busy testing and such and have not actually had students yet because they are still trying to figure out who will be in my classes. I am scared to death!!!! They said this is the first time this program has been offered and if I don't do a good job then I will have no job and they will not have a grant next year. I signed a limited contract today. I work closely with the assistant principal and asst. superintendent. Everyone at the school is nice. I just feel I lack the competency to do a good job. I barely got use to my last job and it ended. Should I quit or try and fail??

Questions for teachers:
I've been thinking about becoming a middle school teacher. What are the advantages and disadvantages? What is something you like and dislike about your career? Do you regret ever becoming a teacher?
I would like to thank you in advance for your sincere answers.

ok i had this professor on one occasion, who assigned us certain rather long and tedious passages from textbooks, essays, what have you. i had read the books that these passages etc were taken from in their entirety as to understand the coursework better. So one day i decided to go to their office to discuss some of what was written in them with the said instructor, but they hadn't read them at all- NEVER. I was really sad that a teacher would assign passages from books they had never actually read themselves. Needless to say i was rather discouraged since I couldn't actually talk to them about it. Is this lazy? or common among academia types?

If I have a BA in Liberal Studies (concentration :Social Science), then what would I need to take in graduate school in order to be able to teach middle and/or high school?

I would prefer to teach older kids, but I know that Liberal Studies basically preps you to just teach elementary kids (along with the teaching cert of course).

If you really think about it, The Republican Party is only running on a few key issues:
All of which indorse governmental policies in-line with Christian idealogy, despite the fact America is multicultural and will continue to grow as a diverse country.

The Republicans run on anti-Abortion, Anti-Gay marriage, the War on Terror, and the War on Iraq.

They stay far away from issues like universal healthcare, global warming/ environmental improvement, anti-job outsourcing and improving the conditions of the poor (those living under the Federal Poverty level).

They avoid these issues because they don't know how to answer them and are afraid they'll upset their ceocon/christian right base.

NOW, THE DEMOCRATS ARE THE EXACT OPPOSITE. They want to talk about the environment, healthcare, and improving the environment because these issues appeal to the middle class and poor.

I am a substitute teacher, I am called upon to teach various subjects. But if I am called upon to teach about sexual relations, I refuse to teach that homosexuality is natural and not a lifestyle choice. I refuse to teach that it is an acceptable alternative to heterosexuality. I refuse to do that to our children.

I love to teach but "political correctness" is making it harder and harder.

I got involved with one of my old professors who is 30+ years older than me. I didnt know he was married, but ended it as soon as I found out. Now im left with the aftermath, and things are becoming very clear. I see him at school, and I feel so used/manipulated. Im almost unable to function. I dont know what to do, but I fear that he will do this to some other girl.

I feel very stronly that I need to let his wife know what is going on while he is at "work" so that it never happens again, and so that I can move on with peace in my mind. I already spoke to a counciler at the college and they told me there is nothing they can do about it since it was consenting and since i was not his student at the time.

Please help!! I really dont want this to happen to anyone else, but I know that it will if i dont do something to stop it. (and i know its happened before...he has a system down pat).

Do you think telling his wife is the right way to go, and if so...how?
