My nephew lives with me and he is in the 3rd grade. I study everyday for a hour with him and I give him a test at home to make sure he knows everything ,but when it comes down to the test he makes bad grades. I sat down with him and asked if there was a problem when he takes the test and he told me no. Do you think I study to much with him. What should I do so I can help him make better grades? Someone told me he might be ADHD that I should bring him to the Dr to get him tested,but I dont want to put him on any type of drug if he is ADHD.

In this age of internet, text messaging, no-one writes 'thank-you' letters anymore, we forget to say 'please' "I'm sorry" everything is fast food, bombarded with advertising we don't need which makes our children more selfish, impatient and unrealistic. Should simple 'social graces' and the art of conversation be taught in schools to 12 year-old children? I think they should.....

I have tried everything; talk, lecture, punish, threaten, shown by example...he has no initiative and if I didn't stay on him as hard as I do, he'd be a super duper 8th grader! He just turned 14.

Some one replied "You shouldnt be a teacher if you cant pass the PRAXIS" So all of you "EXPERTS" out there- if a students fails a test tell them to just give up?
