How do you keep enthusiasm in a class of primary students who are starting to learn english.?

I have experienced teaching in the secondary and tertiary level to stduents who understand english and now I am faced with teh dilemma that I will be eaching primary pupils who a 1 or 2 over ten range in the english knowledge. Help!

I would think it can be done with the right subject matter.
Most children are interested in animals and pets. Language can be taught on any subject. Even with animals, verbs and conjugations can be utilized.

If some students are interested in aircraft, boats, cars and racing, movies, or music, clothing, shoes, shopping, and movies;
use those.

Some Teaching books make a language boring, with parts of speech and repetitive exercises.

I'm not a teacher but I have studied foreign languages. I would learn the interest of children and use that subject matter.
Use some humor and comedy.

This can be done in conjunction with the daily lesson from the book.
You may have or are already doing this. Just my thoughts.
