Given the population fo the United States, I would assume there must be a range of schools to choose from (i.e religious, private, special needs and various educational philosophies). Why do you feel you need to homeschool?

I am looking for the reasons people homeschool. links with statistics would be appreciated.

Our public school is OK, except for my middle school daughter's language arts teacher. She is unreal. She gives hours and hours of homework, and humiliates the kids in front of the class. Is it possible to just homeschool this one subject in MI, or is it an all or nothing concept? Please site sources if possible, as I plan on having a meeting with the teacher and principal on Monday, and want to be properly prepared. Thank you.

What do you spend the majority of your time doing?
How can you alter (or remove) activities to stop spending so much time on things that are not important?
Oh please, no duh and bad words answer...I'm serious about these questions and if you're not serious to answer these, just look something else you can say duh or bad words, you're not in my book to say duh to me..!!!

My son is having troubles with speed and comprehension. He is a slow reader and this has cost him grade wise...

ANYYYYYYYYWAYS I was wondering if any of you homeschoolers would know of any reading games, speed reading software or flash memory type of things... that I could make him a stronger reader..

I have a child who is struggling very hard in school. She has CAPD, Sensory, and Visual Perception Disorder. However, in the public school system, she does not qualify for LD or EC services. She is very smart; but has a hard time w/ completing assignments on time. She is being left out of fun activites in school and on several occasions, she is the only one in class. While the other children participate in other activites, she is left to try and catch up. She has started having emotional melt downs and it is really sad to watch her suffer. We have two other children and we are afraid that they will not understand us taking her out and teaching her at home. I think they will be jealous. How do you approach this issue? Do you know of any great programs for home school? We need lots of ideas. Help! Thank you.
