I know she uses this at school but I cannot find it in toy shops etc and since she has asked Father Christmas for one I'm not sure that he will be able to find it either!

The Roamer is used in schools to help children learn the basic concept of programming - making the robot follow instruction by taking a particular route decided by the child. It can also have a pen fitted so that it scribes its route on the ground as it moves and it can make musical sounds as it moves. I think that your daughter would soon get bored with it as it doesnot do much more than this, it is really a teaching aid. A computer programme which she could use in a similar way is LOGO.

I think you mean Roamer which is very popular in Primary schools - in fact children do love it. It helps them to understand quite abstract concepts in a very concrete way and is particularly used in Maths. It retails at about £100 which is OK for a robot which is not a toy. It is a grey semi- sphere (if that is such a word) and children can change it into whatever they want - it comes with different face shapes and jackets are available too. You can tell Father Christmas that they come from Valiant Technology - their website is www.valiant-technology.com

it is used in the early years of primary schools in maths and I.T. Its not a toy and it's extremely expensive she'd have more fun with a remote control toy, possibly something shaped like a lady bird or something round,( the roma is round.) It's quite a boring grey colour in fact but most kids find using it more fun than doing division , odd that!

ROMA: It is a multifunctional robot capable of autonomous climbing, designed for inspection applications. It is not a commercial toy - yet. So very unlikely Father Christmas can bring one this year!

Its not a toy but is used a lot in Primary schools. Its quite expensive. You could ask the teacher for the suppliers catalogue, sorry but I cant remember where you can get them.
