Do you have any other flavors?
Possibly answers include:
1 orange, 13 grape, 36 lime
or 10 orange 22 grape and 18 cola
or 0 orange, 12 grape and 8 cola, 10 lemon 19 raspberry and one ginger beer
Or (if you want to be boring) 19 orange and 31 grape
p.s. it is healthier to drink water

You can solve it like this:
no of orange cans= x
no of grape cans = x+12
Total amount of cans=50=x+(x+12)
50 = 2x +12
50-12 = 2x
38= 2x
x= 38/2=19
So you have 19 cans of orange, and 19+12=31 cans of grape

Here is one possible answer (and it is true):
I do not like grape soda, so I would have zero grape sodas in my house.
I had 12 cans of orange soda, but I finished them and threw them away.
The remaining 38 sodas could be Sprite, or any kind or combination as long as they do are not grape or orange!
This is a legitimate answer, but it is not the answer you seek.

you have to assign a value for orange cans(x), so now we can assign a value for the grape cans(x+12). We end up with the formula x+(x+12)=50.
2x+12=50.
2x=38.
x=19.
19 cans of orange. 31 cans of grape.
