I know about Calvert, I heard about Robinson...what are some of the other well known Curriculums. I researching write now and am looking for a easy to follow program. I'm new at this and I don't want to waste time this year in putting a curriculum together while my daughter waits around. Maybe after a year of following a homeschool program and getting in to the groove of things, I can make my own for next year.

What's your opinion? Have you heard of the Calvert Curriculum? What is it like? or what are the other curriculums like?

IS it legal to home school starting mid-year in a public school? Also, I have an eight year old learning disabled child currently in an IEP program.(learning nothing) and a seven year old on a 3.5 grade level. Could I teach both children on a third grade level?

I would like to homeschool my daughter, but I've no idea how to get started. I also want to keep it legal. Does anyone have some advice for me? She is 8 years old and in 3rd grade. How difficult will it be for her to apply for college?

We use a self-teaching program called the Robinson Curriculum. It gives the student the tools needed to learn everything from phonics and mathfacts up to college level reading, writing, and physics. The idea is to become a life-long learner with great study habits.

I'm working on a group project for a Management class in Library Science, and our task is to spend 5% of our hypothetical budget on materials and resources for homeschooling kids. However none of us know anything about homeschooling, besides that many people do it because they don't want their kids to learn about evolution, so we have no idea where to start.

Do you homeschool your kids? If you do, do you use your local library? What for? What do you wish your library had or could do for you? Do you want books, electronic resources, or just meeting space? Do people homeschooling for religious reasons have different needs then those homeschooled for other reasons (lousey schools, etc).? We're open to any suggestions or any resources that could help us out.

Just curious what home school kids do for gym, team sports etc. Is it a requirement for their parents/home schooler to provide some kind of physical activity or not?

I just moved to a new country (from US back to Canada, yes I'm Canadian) and I have decided to homeschool my daughter (5 1/2 years old). She's been going to school since she was 3 1/2 so she's used to the routine of going to school. But since I've been so incredibly busy with painting and unpacking, I haven't been able to start homeschooling her. It's barely been 4 weeks.
My daughter, however, interacts with kids that go to school regularly while she stays back. I feel that some how this may be affecting her emotionally (though I don't sense it, it's just a thought). She may be feeling left out but I'm not sure. I did teach her on a trial basis one day and she really liked it. I structured it like school so she could feel part of her schooled friends and doesn't miss her old routine previous to the move. There were lessons and work in the morning, then mid-morning there was a snack time, and then back to work until afternoon. She really enjoyed it. I just want to know if..

Where in the "real world" are you segregated by age and test scores? Where in the "real world" are you forced to 'live' with harrassment (bullying)? When in the "real world" have you been invited to a dance? Where in the "real world" are you forced to deal with violence, sex, and drugs on a regular basis? Isn't the "real world" the place where you CHOOSE your job, your friends, how you spend your time, what you study?

Is it possible homeschoolers are BETTER prepared for the "real world" because they interact with it on a daily basis?

My 6 yr. old is reading fluently. Right now he reads the books that are part of his reading curriculum or Garfield comic books. I'd like to find him some books with substance. I have heard about great classics that are condensed for young readers. Does anyone know where I can find these books?
