I am a 15 year old male and I have been homeschooled for all my school and I sometimes wish I could just be in public school for just one year.

I'm so tired of "they won't have any social skills" or "they'll lose their social skills if you take them out of school." I'd like to know what this supposedly means.

Also, I'd be interested in hearing the reverse: which social skills do you think are better developed homeschooling than in school?

I am always floored by how many replies on the homeschooling board state that homeschooled children are less able to think for themselves and are socially limited! I'd like to know what experiences folks have had to give them a basis to make these claims. I have homeschooled for nearly three years and it has been my experience that most homeschoolers are better able to work independently and to not only formulate but explain and apply the conclusions they reach. And I know that can't just be me

I have been thinking about homeschooling for a long time. For a few reasons:
1. i don't learn that well with other people also asking questions and me not getting enough personal help
2. i learn at different paces and rates for every class and my school only offers two levels for each class
3. the way i am being taught is not working for me at school
4. i am often sick and miss alot of school
5. i enjoy spending time w/ my family, not teachers who barely know me
6. i don't have ne friends at school, all my friends go to different schools

but how should i tell my mom about this? and would my brother have to be homeschooled too?
any help would be great.

I'll give you an example for ambivalent and indifferent
She felt ambivalent about his proposal.
She remained indifferent toward his proposal.

1. How much research have you personally done about homeschooling?

2. What are your sources?

It will be good to hear from someone that honestly knows at least 100 actual homeschoolers.

3. Have you attended an homeschool conference?

4. Have you visited a local meeting for homeschool families?

Hi, I previously asked a similar question but I didn't realize that a lot of the homeschooling curriculums are christian based. I was looking for a program that is more neutral to all religions (as I am not a christian) and I was wondering if you know of any good ones...

Thank you!

I have fibromyalgia and i was seriously concidering home schooling my 7 and 9 year old children. My main concern is that social security (knowing how they work) would see that as "gainful work" and deny benefits. But I feel that home schooling them 4 1/2 a day (required in my state) at home, would be less stressful mentally and physically on them and I. Does anyone know for sure if you, as a disabled parent, are aloud to home school and still collect benefits? Serious answers only please!!!

If I've known a few people from a particular country acting in a certain way, I'm not going to go so far to think that all people from that country are that way then go around being prejudicial and turning others against them.

I would never try to tell somebody it was a bad idea to do something I knew little about. I also would not go around spouting my opinion on some issue as fact, especially if I had not taken the time to make sure my opinion was fact. If I'm wrong, I'm sending out a lot of incorrect information.

I would also hope others were the same. I would hate it if someone, with their limited experience, told me that teaching was a bad idea or that teachers are just awful. I've taught in the schools. I've been there and have more hands-on experience with that than they do. I would naturally object.

Is it right to put down things we know little about and pretend our opinion is fact? If not, how come it seems to be okay for people to do that with homeschooling?

I really don't enjoy being around other people. I know I can do it, but my dad doesn't think I can. Hmmph, he's not a very good father if he doesn't support me, now is he? He knows how much I hate people, he works all day. How do I prove to him that I can do this?
