I have fibromyalgia and i was seriously concidering home schooling my 7 and 9 year old children. My main concern is that social security (knowing how they work) would see that as "gainful work" and deny benefits. But I feel that home schooling them 4 1/2 a day (required in my state) at home, would be less stressful mentally and physically on them and I. Does anyone know for sure if you, as a disabled parent, are aloud to home school and still collect benefits? Serious answers only please!!!

I collect SSI and am in a wheelchair and homeschool my three boys. Since there is no income involved, this is not considered gainful work. It is simply parenting. I double and tripled checked this with social security before I pulled the boys out of school, as we cannot survive without my benefits.

How can homeschooling be considered gainful work when you're not getting paid for it?
