It was originally called the All India War Memorial. It is a monument built to commenorate the Indian soldiers who died in World War I and the Afghan wars.

The names of the soldiers are inscribed on a wall, similar to our Vietnam War memorial.

It was constructed as a war memorial for the Indian soldiers who died in World war ,but later on the was changed/called INDIA GATE. Later on Amar Jawan Jyoti was also added to the monument.
