Some would say that Nick best represents FSF. Some have even said that FSF is gay, and that's why Nick likes the butch-looking woman.
Anyway, I think it adds to the story by having the narrator be one of Jay's friends. The whole thing is about Jay's effort to fit into the elite society, so it should be someone from that society presenting the story.
Nick as FSF? Maybe
