I don't like the looks of this. They are selling diplomas - get yours in 2 weeks for a couple hundred bucks! Smells fishy to me!

Whether it is good or not might be irrelevant. Suppose it's legit -- is it going to help him in any way if he tries to go on for College? He's getting nothing but a piece of paper! I think he should go to his local school and see about how to get a GED. Everyone knows about GEDs and that they are legitimate..... Most colleges will accept a GED for admission.

I got my diploma from them about 11 years ago. It was my father's idea, as I was homeschooled and he thought GED's were somehow less valuable.
I have to say, it worked to get me into flight attendant training. Their standards were awfully strict, with some students being ejected partially through the training process because of paperwork that didn't hold up under scrutiny. I'm certain they contacted the HS and equally sure that John Adams must have given them a satisfactory response.

That said, I'm not sure this is the best thing to go with if you want to do anything serious. Some institutions and careers may see it as a piece of junk. Who knows. If you're looking for further education, or a career with more stringent background checks than flight attendants undergo... then you should totally do things properly and get a GED.

BEWARE! High school programs online are usually not. There was a report about these on Dateline only about three weeks ago stating that most are not, and those who do take the course, usually end up regretting it because they end up not having a legitimate high school diploma recognized by their state. I would recommend to your friend that they simply go and get their GED. I did it, and it was worth it. I put four years of high school into three months.

Good luck to you friend.

It's a "private high school" in Miami, FL.

From their FAQ:

22. Is John Adams High School Accredited?

A. John Adams High School is fully accredited by:

National Commission of Accredited Schools
Farragut Office Center
1725 I Street NW
Suite 300
Washington District of Columbia 20006

We are also registered with the Florida Department of Education and the Florida State Department. All course of instruction is taught by State Licensed Teachers. We comply with all State and Federal Regulations. Our student population resides in all regions of the world, and at last count, residing in over 60 nations. ALL of our services are conducted via electronic delivery means, with NO RESIDENCY requirements. This is the reason we can do what we do for such reasonable fees. The idea of centralized government control over higher education in the United States was rejected in favor of a system of voluntary regional accreditation organizations. Membership in any one of the several U.S. accrediting associations is strictly voluntary. These regional accrediting associations are privately owned and operated and are NOT owned or operated by the U.S.
Government or the U.S. Department of Education. John Adams High School has partnered with FLVS to provide curriculum and instruction for our students. The Florida Virtual School is a recognized leader in online education and is fully accredited by CITA (Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation) and (SACS) Southern Association Council on Accreditation and School Improvement.

A note about third party accreditation from the DETC:
Accreditation is purely voluntary. The applicant institution voluntarily elects to apply for accreditation and it voluntarily agrees to comply with all standards and policies of the Commission.
Accreditation is a non-governmental peer review process in which the integrity and good faith of an institution and its officers are essential.
Accreditation is by its nature a formal, but nonetheless, collegial process. It works best when there is a common agreement that the chief purpose for seeking accreditation is the identification of soundness, honesty and quality in the practice of distance education.
