i've gone to a public school my whole life. However, these last couple of years the drama and nonsense of the school has been driving me crazy. There's about 3 and more fights a day, bomb threats about everyother month. We couldn't even take our back packs to school thelast 2 weeks of school because things are so bad. The school just got rebuilt last year yet, there is writing all over the wall. I would like an alternative. I don't want to look back on my school days and think of how awlful they were, or worse get caught up in the crowd. So, if anyone knows anything about homeschooling, or why it migh be better pllleeaaasee help!

It's called "Straight Talk" and was developed by a speech therapist. (http://www.nathhan.com/straight.htm). I'd be interested in learning how it worked for other homeschooled families. Thanks!

After reading so many well-thought out responses from the homeschool opponents about homeschool kids being unsocialized (including the one that directed us to the very informative South Park episode about homeschoolers), I'm now asking those well-informed individuals to heIp me brainstorm how I can socialize my kids without putting them in the institutionalized setting of public school.
...Or were people not "socialized" before the last two or three generations. One-room schoolhouses were much more similar to homeschool than modern public schools.

So here's my dilemma:
With Awana, team gymnastics, soccer, basketball, dance, church, church activities, kids' choir, homeschool co-op, traveling to France and China with other kids and their families, local field trips, piano, guitar, and drum lessons, drama workshops, playdates, birthday parties, etc., I just don't have time to socialize my kids.

Any suggestions?

Sorry for the long question but I need some help here. You see up till now I have been home schooled all my life, I did well educationally. I'm 17 and just finishing my junior year in high school if I was actually in high school that is.
Just this year (my junior year) I got into a program which is technically public school but it's a program that you can do at home. This program if you do well enough in grades gives you the option to go to college early. They give you funds to go to college and take classes so you can finish your senior year in college and get the credits to graduate from high school but at the same time start my college classes toward my associates degree. So it’s sort of like a head start for me. Only problem is I’m not sure about my social stand point because the youngest you can be to get into this college is 17, so I’ll be at the bottom of the food chain (so to speak). Continued:

Our son is autistic but highly functional. He was in public school but was steadily getting teased every day. He saw a girl in his classroom get tackled down by a teacher and a teachers aide because she was screaming because she wanted to go to the nurses office. My son is now scared to go to school and his heart is racing. I took him to see the Dr and the Dr said it was high anxiety. I called the principle and teacher and nothing is ever done about it. We want to homeschool him to make sure nothing like this happens to him because he also has a tendency to scream. Any advice?

For the first time I'm scared I may make the wrong decision
are public school system has fallen apart in Mobile, Alabama.
My child was chosen to attend a magnet school > Art and Performance School (Dunbar).
I found out it was on needs improvement "or closure.
I moved her, as a A,B honor roll student ..she has now been jumped on 8 times, since the transfer. (7th grade)

Now a young boy has threaten to harm her w/force ..he was put in a youth center by the police.
After which, he returned back to the same school.
My daughter stayed out of school approx: 3 weeks, until they was going to put me in jail.
Her grades for the first time ever are, E,D,C she may fail because this child has disrupted her education.

I feel like everything I have stood for about her getting a good education has just went down the drain.
I have got to do something.

I just don't know if I like public school anymore and was wondering if anyone who has done home-schooling or was home-schooled can tell if it is a better choice or not? Should I send him to public school or have my mother home-school him?

straight As in every subject; he is in first grade and has 160+ AR points (Accelerated reader), etc... He is very advanced in math.
I am going to homeschool because his teacher sits him in front of the television for about 45 minutes a day as he has completed his work early.--This has been a source of contention between the public school and myself for awhile. They only teach 3 core subjects that are covered on the state exams--math, reading, and spelling. English is placed on a rotating schedule with gym and is taught every other day. Art, music, history, and science are not taught at all!
Placing him in a private school is not really an option. I live in a rural area, and I would spend at least 2 hours a day with him in commute time.
Also, socialization is not really a problem, as he is involved in the martial arts, belongs to a community based basketball league, and participates in a myriad of other activities.
Curriculum with advanced math????

My son has completed all 7-12 exams, mailed them to American School in Lansing Il. But we can't get anyone to speed up the grading process so he can graduate by the 18th of MAY with his class. He appearantly needs to correct some on Exam 8 they claimed they mailed it on the 3rd but it has been 8 days since and we have still not gotten the paper so he can correct it and get it back to them. We don't have anymore time to waste. I have copies of every other test 7, 9, 10, 11 & 12. Wouldn't you know 8 has been missed placed. He has his answer work sheet but not the problems to look at. Can some one please photo copy a copy to "PAINT" (in Windows) and email them. He only has 8 days. I think I'm going to have to drive 9 1/2 hrs to get his transcript on time. The councelor has to have it in writing! My nerves are shot! They received every test back in the time they allowed. Now they claim they are backed up. That should not keep our kids from graduating. Any other mothers out there PLEASE HELP

I'm 14 and from the ages 9 to 13 I was homeschooled, It was fantastic and I always thought I was learning, I then moved france and have been living here for a year. I would be starting to study for my GCSE's at the beginning of next year but I'm not anymore, If I stayed for another year and then went to study would it be more difficult and would employers reject me for my late studies.
Thanks, Nicole =]

I would like to know if they are up to par on their education. So if there ia a teacher out there tell me what they should be able to do and know at their age group of 9 ,7 and 5. I am afraid they are way behind. Thank you a NYC Grandpa from the East Village

My son is finishing up 2nd grade and he is really struggling. He just doesn't seem to like school much though he gets along well with everybody--just doesn't like the whole rigid structure.

My problem is that his personality and mine absolutely do not get on well together! I am a former teacher and am comfortable with teaching but am afraid that our constant head butting will continue through out the school day. He has three siblings and there is the possibility that he might respond well to the alone time with Mom. I just don't know what to do.

My husband doesn't think it's a good idea and he is normally very intuitive about what is going on with the boys and he knows me well! He also hates anything out of the ordinary and I am afraid the "strangeness" of it may be biasing him against it!
Have any of your ever homeschooled a "difficult" child?

Again this question is for anti-homeschool people who are pro public school and graduated from public school.
We homeschool and graduated from public school. We are amazed at the things we did not learn in public school. We are learning them now as we teach.
