Hello.
I'm a sixteen-year-old homeschooler. I came home this year from my public school with mixed feelings about starting homeschooling. No more mixed feelings here!
Homeschooling is AWESOME! I enjoy just about every minute of it. Sometimes my family gets fed up with each other, but in the end we work together learning tons of new things.
One point I'd like to make (to clarify to all those against homeschooling); homeschooling has about thee BEST opportunities for socializing. I couldn't begin to tell how many friends I've made or how may activities I've become involved in. What's even better is that we're able to turn those times in to learning experiences too. I can't understand why people feel that homeschoolers are "unsocialized". *thinks to self* "Maybe I should ask that on here."
Anyway, homeschooling is definitely awesome. It gives opportunities to learn in tons of new ways.

Homeschooling is a wonderful way for some families to learn and grow. It isn't for everyone, but for those families who live a homeschooling lifestyle it can be a very rewarding and bonding way to educate their child(ren). Like anything that is rewarding, it takes time, energy and sometimes money to reach that level; it doesn't just happen. The benefits of homeschooling to both parents/guardians and their child(ren) outweigh any negatives I've experienced as a homeschooling Mom of 3.
Socialization and socializing are "problems" that are often brought up in regards to homeschooling. It truly isn't an issue in homeschooling families who "school with integrity". Home schooled kids are not less able to make friends or have difficulty in various social situations. Many home schooled kids are outgoing and friendly because of the self-confidence they possess from socializing with a wide variety of people in many different places. They don't spend their time socializing in a classroom with the same 30 kids year-after-year the majority of the day. They socialize and LEARN to socialize in the community at grocery stores or the post office or home school co-ops or nursing homes or church or a multicultural restaurant or a science museum...School is not the "real world" when it comes to learning to get along with others and making friends.

I think homeschooling is a wonderful idea. I homeschool my 13 year old daughter and my 10 year old goes to public school. My 13 year old was having a lot of difficulty in public school. It didn't seem like that public school teachers were very concerned with her grades. She was making C's and D's and the teachers were okay with that but I knew she could do better. She had a very hard time concentrating in public school. There were always to many distractions for her. She has been homeschooled for 2 years and is doing so much better. Homeschooling is not for everyone, though, it depends on the child and how much time and effort the child and parent are willing to put into homeschooling.

OK, OK, I wasn't going to answer this question yet again, but I cant help myself.
You can not judge Home schooling by one or two cases alone. Home schooling is a huge benefit for kids when it is done by a parent that is committed to doing the best job for the child. That means not only academically but in the social aspect as well. That being said, most parents want the best for their children and who better to teach them than parents? They get one on one interaction and instruction, they don't become "peer dependent" and the bond between siblings and parents remain intact. As far as socialization? Home schoolers as a whole live more in the "real world" than their public schooled counterparts. High school socialization is a bunch of kids of about the same age thrown together with little to no instruction on how to act. They usually simply are trying to impress each other. That doesn't fly in the real world.
My kids do volunteering in the "real world" and are involved in several sports and clubs. People who hold to the socialization myth are usually not familiar with home schooling at all and not willing to do the research.
Blessings!

Sorry...
I'm tired of answering this exact same question every day.
I really think that some folks are doing this on purpose as anti-homeschool propaganda.
If you really want to know look up the home school legal defense association - they have a lot of research and articles on the topic.
Or, just use a search engine and you will find bunches of research that puts home school in a favorable light.
You will not find a single scientifically based research report that puts home schooling (including socialization) in a negative light.
Good luck and keep this question coming!

As a mother who has homeschooled her 6, yes 6! children, I would not have had it any other way. All those that say that kids are not adjusted are so full of it! Also my kids have always lived in the real world as I never found a fake one to put them in. They have had so many friends that if they had any more, I would never see them. They are smart, independant, strong and strong willed. My husband is an engineer and we can travel with him when we want. There is no need for us to wait til the summer vacation and we enjoy the theme parks during the week when they're not packed. I can go on forever as this is a very strong subject in our household. As for proms, graduations and games and all that, well we have those too! I homeschooled throughout highschool also. There are church groups, scouts, boys clubs, girls club, music lessons, city leagues for all type of sports and so forth. If homeschooling is done correctly, your child should only miss the gangs, locker searches, mean students, low self esteem, bad influences, bad teachers, drugs, alcohol, way too early mornings, etc.
Homeschooling is a completely different lifestyle.
One thing I do have to say above all...whether it's private schools, public schools or homeschools, IT ALL STARTS IN THE HOME!

Love it!!
I'm not a schedule or rules based person, and homeschooling allows incredible flexibility in our lives! There's plenty of great curriculum out there, so that's not a problem. Nobody dictates our lives but us. The kids get along and enjoy each other, and there's a lot more time for piano, drums, guitar, gymnastics, and other activities.
Sometimes we get together and do school with other families, and that's been really fun, too. It's just a great option that can yield wonderful results!

I'm also interested to know this as I want my daughter to be home schooled! I hated school and it's worse now than when I was young, I really don't think she should have to gothrough that. I learnt little because I was more interested in not being beaten up, bullied or looking like an idiot in front of the other idiots! if I'd had some one on one time I'd have excelled!

My brothers, sister and i were all home schooled. You can get a correspondence course to help with work load and courses to be sure your child is keeping up. I recommend Calvert they are an actual school and go from K to 8th grade.
Make sure though to include extra curricular activities though to keep your child's social skills intact. My mom put us in a homeschooling group and we took dance and swimming for years. This allowed us to learn to get along with others, something we may have otherwise missed homeschooling.

I am a high schooler and I am homeschooled. I absolutely LOVE it soooooooooo much!!!!! It is great! You MUST be extremely self motivated though in order to be homeschooled b/c you don't have a teacher that is always there to make you do your work. you should try an online academy that is fully accredited if you decide to homeschool. that way you do have teachers if you need to ask something
