I would like suggestions on teaching techniques, educational materials, websites, books or movies that anyone feels are good tools to help me raise an exceptional child. I am a work at home mom and have all the time in the world to dedicate to my child, I just want it to be productive.

I am looking for a timeline kist that is approximately 8 1/2 x 11, but is folded, acordion style, so that it can be opened to several feet long. I want a blank timeline so that my child can fill in the events herself. I need something other than a roll of paper (too flimsy). It needs to be a good cardstock weight so that it will last and we can build upon it throughout the schoolyear.

I realize that all families and situations are different, but if you used Konos, did you and your kids enjoy it? Was it easy for you? A lot of work and preparation? Did the kids learn by doing? It seems like a good aproach and I like the subject matter and method of teaching, but not sure If I want to drop the big bucks on it. What is preventing me from developing my own unit study based on similar subjects? Is there any prep work done for you?

Sorry for all the additional questions! Thanks in advance for your help.

with an education outside of the home so that they can get many perspectives?

Also, it is really unrealistic to think that one or two people (the parents) could possible do all of the more advanced education (junior high and high school)? I just worry that the home school kids are missing out. This isn’t particularly meant to offend.

I am in the process of thinking over homeschooling. I am a sophomore in highschool but I already know I am not going to pass this year. If I start homeschooling as a sophomore. How long do you think it will take to finish all 3 grades and finally get my diploma. Any experiences or answers are appreciated.

Many years ago education used to be the responsibility of the family -- parents, grandparents, etc. etc. In 1746 a man, Jean Jacques Rousseau, abandoned his new-born baby on the steps of an orphanage. He did the same thing in the coming years with four more children. They could have all died in the cold! This man, Rousseau, became a famous "education" philosopher that influenced modern day public schools.

The snow-ball effect of abandoning children to the care of others has diminished the role of the family in many areas.

God bless home-schoolers for trying to bring back to the family a nuturing and caring relationship through education and life choices!

As I have stated here before, I do not have a problem with homeschooling if a parent is educated and organized themselves. This has gotten me thumbs down from many of you. Ok, to each his own. Now I would like you to help me understand something.

I have a child who is struggling in school. He is rarely attends, and when he does he is dirty and poorly dressed. (No underwear, pants too large, broken zipper..) He never finishes his work (I give him work at his level, not above it.)

His father is little help, his letters go like this, "mi sun hrted his ne he ant gona be in scool tooda." and he tells me that he, "Can't get the child to do no work." The mother is not in his life, there isn't any other family.

Friday I was told that the child would be homeschooled next year! When I asked if the father was really prepared for this task, the local home school group started complaining. How can people who say they care about education actually condone this educational setting?

i'm NOT saying i'm going to drop out, no i want to
go to college and actually not be like all the druggies
who think they are super cool. i went from a private highschool
to a public school this year and i absolutely hate it.
my parents say i have to stay in school regardless
of how old i am, which i agree. BUT.. i want to know if
i can make the choice of becoming homeschooled
and doing homework, keeping track of the hours i've spent,
and doing the recommended courses and such..is that right?
or is it still the responsibility of the parents?

Is my English still retarded?

Please check the grammars of these sentences:

1.At his front he saw a person standing behind his reflection at the mirror. It’s a sharp dressed man who looks better than him.

2.The only ones you can beat are the people weaker than you.

3.I need to unleash the burning anger I have within. No one is going to protect you now.

My dd is probably going to high school for grade 10 in the fall. She's been homeschooled up to this point. When we tell people she's considering public school, we get negative reactions, surprisingly. Some of these people were a little leery when we announced we were homeschooling a few years ago. Now they're warning us about gang fights, bullying, etc. etc. , especially about the school that our dd will probably go to. I realize school is different now than it was 20-30 years ago but is it really that bad? I admit I was a little nervous about the possibility of our daughter going to high school but after touring it and meeting with the vice principal and a counsellor, we felt quite good about it. But I still would like some responses from people who have "been there, done that". Also, was it hard to adjust to a routine, going to different classes, having homework at night, that kind of thing. TIA.
