Wuthering Heights and Great Expectations (Bronte and Dickens) are too hard for you dear 14yr old "English is my second Language" girl. They are both WONDERFUL books mind you.

How about CS Lewis "Narnia" series? The first book is "Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe" Don't be fooled by the witch in the title. It is not spooky. Well done for wanting to read.

Hugs,

Well, I really like fanfiction. It is inexpensive (only internet access is required) and it is a great way to learn English. (Been there, done that. English is my third language.)

Fanfiction writers are often young highschool or college students, so they do not use a lot of fancy words. You don't need the vocabulary that reading such classics as Jane Eyre, A Tale of Two Cities or Romeo and Juliet would require.

(To the people here who mentioned the great classics: For non-native speakers, reading Bronte, Dickens and Shakespeare in English is third year college material, to be attempted after 7+ years of intensive study of the English language. It is not suitable for the large majority of learners at the age of 14, who start learning English when they are 10 or 12.)

Fanfic writers also often write just the thing you want to read.
If you like Harry Potter for example and think that Ron and Hermione or Harry and Hermione would make a great couple (kissing and blusing and all) finding a fanfiction novel online with them getting together is very easy. (I could give you some recs, if you want.)

http://www.fanficion.net is the largest online fanfiction archive, whatever your favourite book or TV show is, there is bound to be a fanfic about it there. (Spongebob Squarepants, Teletubbies, X-Files, Indiana Jones, Gilmore Girls, Bonanza, ...) There are many other archives, but ff.net is a good place to start. Note that a lot of the stories there are utter garbage and quite a lot of it is outright p0rn, but there are also some gems hidden there. Just keep looking.

BTW, if you find some truly awful fanfics, you can bring them to the attention of Godawful Fanfiction at http://www.godawful.net/ (Just make sure first you haven't stumbled upon the first writing attempt by an 8-year-old homeschooled kid.)

As for real books, I second the recommendation for Danielle Steel. You might also like the "Ayla" series by Jean M. Auel. John Grisham also is a good author for readers just beginning to learn English, but you wanted romantic...

Moonfleet. A great story set in England 200 years ago.
Anything by Jane Austin or the Bronte sisters for 19th century romance. Contemporary novelist Danielle Steele gives and easy entertaining read with a lot of content.

If you are interested in looking at the lives of young women your age in a different time, read Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. Other books that are noteworthy and timeless are:
Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte
Great Expectations - Charles Dickens
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - Mark Twain
Twenty Thousands Leaugues Under the Sea - Jules Verne
The Time Machine - H.G. Wells
