My teenagers do for reasons ranging from low to high!

Don't have to ride the bus an hour
Can study in their jammies some days
Have time to pursue their interests -such as cake decorating, etc without time limits
Have time to Think
Can study from a Christian worldview
FieldTrips when we want to go -- and when Dad's off
Don't spend time on petty stuff

These are all things they have voiced to me, I'm sure there are others.

As a teenager, I would not have preferred homeschooling unless it was something where my mom was at work and I did distance learning stuff or something. No way could I have handled spending a lot of time with my mother at that age--actually, it can still be difficult!

However, I know plenty of homeschooled teens who have no desire to be in school and quite enjoy homeschooling. Mainly it has to do with the flexibility, I think. Most teens need to sleep later than schools start; with homeschooling, you can start your day when you're ready. School takes 7 hours plus they're supposed to do another 2-3 hours of homework each night. For kids who are into sports or want a job or just have hobbies/interests they'd like to pursue, a school schedule and homework kind of makes it difficult.

I have been home schooled for the past four years and I like it! I like it because you can move at your own pace and I think that home schoolers have take more responsibility than kids that go to school. And I think that schools public or private are getting worse. Because private schools are pretty much turning into public schools. My dad teaches online colledges classes and he even says that the people who were home schooled are more diligent in their work and get things turned in on time than the people who weren't home schooled. So I think that home schooling is better

I would if I did not go to my school.

Disclaimer: I go to a well-off college prep. school, so obviously I have benefits that those who go to public school do not in terms of environment, etc.

The most important thing for me is education. I love my parents and the adults around me, but my teachers are more knowledgeable than they are knowledgeable in specific subjects. I am very advanced in math, and wouldn't trust my father who is in finance to teach my calculus. I would not trust my mother, an excellent writer, to teach me English classes or Latin (which is a blast). I would not trade in my teachers for a book or website any day. Even correspondence courses are not guaranteed to get me the quality education that I am getting now.

Also, my school offers diverse activities in which I am interested, with competitive teams (mainly academic) recognized at state and national levels. I couldn't have that if I were homeschooled.

Those are the two main reasons. I live in a healthy, wholesome environment in which students are encouraged to take an active part in education and the world around them. However, homeschooling is very attractive to me. I would love to spend more time on math competition preparation and the like, but I find that I have enough time anyway.

Hope this helps.

Well, I went through 11 years of public school and homeschooled for the last 2 years of high school. I much preferred it. I was still able to talk to my friends and make new friends, but I was also able to move at my own pace. I didn't have to worry about how I would get all of my homework done in one night after spending all day at school. I was able to do a little bit every day. I was also able to work.
Also, my curriculum was quite challenging, so I was able to actually challenge myself instead of sitting in a classroom bored all day long.

I have been in public school all my life but now in tenth grade i have decided to finish off high school by doing homeschooling because then i can graduate a year earlier. Its nice to experience different things. So if you want to then i think it will be something you would want to try.

NO. Public school has prepared me for reality, and provided me with a lot more opportunities than if I had been home schooled.
Although, the homeschool community around here is pretty large, but the parents of home-schooled kids tend to be more protective and almost stifling of their kids.
For example, a home schooled friend of mine recently had a birthday party, and home schooled and public school kids came, but only people who went to public school spent the night. Either an odd coincidence, or none of the home shcooled people were allowed.

No, because you need the social evironment to learn the best- really. You need a few backstabbers and real friends for you to learn what it's like to be in the real world. This will help- whoever- not be shocked and hurt as an adult just because someone said something mean to you. You'll just bounce back up!

NOT IN THE WORLD, with homeschool you will never experience all the things as in school ( jokes, hanging out with friends, special moments , embarrasments you will remember 20 years later and laugh about 'em)
