I just moved to a new state, and I wanna finish high school through homeschooling. I started in flvs.net, but it sucks! Does anyone know another one thats good and that will give me a high school diploma at the end?
Oh btw, I heard there is one where you can finish high school in 6 months, anyone know something about that?

I am a successful work at home mom of 4 kids. I have been checking into different homeschool curriculums but was looking for some testimonials of ones that have worked for other parents.

Everytime I give my boys a writing assignment, they fight me tooth and nail. They whine, complain, say there's nothing to write about, can't think of anything, and on and on. They'll sit there and tell me all sorts of stuff about their experiences that they're supposed to be writing about, but then refuse to put it on paper, cuz "that's just stupid". What can I do? How can I help them complete a story. Any ideas?
BTW, they're 8 & 10.

I'm part of a homeschool co-op and at the start of the year we all are assigned hall monitor duty during the classes. I was assigned in the winter but since I knew I had chronic sinus problems that wasn't a good time for me. So I switched to the last day of school.

I learned I have a chronic painful bladder condition called IC a month ago. It is really painful and right now I am at times confined to bed due to the pain.

2 wks ago I contacted the head of the co-op about my condition and how I wouldn't be able to do the hall monitor job. She told me to find a replacement or pay a $25 fee. I contacted the woman in charge of hall monitor and she never got back to me. I emailed her 3 times and emailed the head of the group 3 times but neither let me know how I was to find a replacement.

So today the day before the co-op I finally get a hold of the head of the group by phone & told that no switching is allowed due to the the end of the school year.

running out of room . . .

teach the kids, keep the house cleaned, etc.? My little girls are 2 1/2 and 9 months, and I'm amazed at how little I can do during the day (aside from the VERY important work of raising my little angels:)). I'm planning on homeschooling them, but I'm a bit concerned about the other aspects of my life.

Do you have outside help, or do the kids pitch in? How does one get it all done?!?

I have a friend who home schools her kids.....they are bright, well-mannered children but I worry about the fact they do not get the opportunity to interact with their peers as they would if they attended public or private school. (They also stand a better chance of NOT getting mowed down by a crazed gunman)
But, do any of you home school parents ever encounter problems with this? I'm just curious because my sister-in-law is considering taking her kids out of public school and home schooling. This concerns me because both my niece and my nephew are currently very involved with school sports and clubs and other school activities. My nephew is starting high school next fall and if his mom home schools...there will be no prom for him...not to mention the fact that he will no longer be able to play football, basketball and baseball for the school with all his buddies.

I've read several answers over the last several days where the answerer was anti-homeschooling and they said that homeschooling should be stopped. One even said the "idea should be cut off"
So, all you anti homeschool people, how do you propose to stop educational freedom?
And for all the pro-homeschoolers, how does this make you feel?
How do you feel when you hear (read) people say (type) that they think basic freedoms and rights need to be done away with.
Does this stir something inside you that goes deeper than homeschooling?
Do you feel this is an indicator of people's willingness to allow more governmental control in our lives?
And one last thing: how do you feel when someone is bashing homeschoolers, saying that we, as homeshool parents, are hurting our children and preventing them from receiving an education and they can't even spell basic words?
Do you see that as a reflection on the person or the system?

(and yes, I chose the header for drama!)

I am wondering if anyone uses or has used Switched On Schoolhouse.
If so, how does it compare to other CD/DVD curriculums?

In past years, I've used the structured text approach, but this year, both the children and I have gotten kind of "burned out" and are looking to try something different that will still be in-depth with a one-on-one feel, but keep them interested as well.

Any pros/cons would be helpful.

Thanks.
