Someone told me that you are able to take a high school speech class that is required to graduate at home. Like an internet class kind of thing, I believe...
Anyway I don't know how this could possibly work.
Does anyone have any info about it?
All information is welcome. THx

Do you homeschool your kids? Or are you perhaps being homeschooled currently? I am and it's just about the best life experience I've had so far!
Let me know your comments, but please, no "I hate homeschool" and "Those kids aren't taught well" answers
P.S. I love biology!

My daughter has health issues and is not going to be able to attend public school at this time. We live in Ohio and I am looking for other people who have homeschooled their kids and what program that you used? Please tell me what your feelings about these programs are and if you would suggest them or not. My daughter will be entering Kindergarten. Thanks in advance

We have been homeschooling all year this year, and the biggest problem is that he has no desire to learn. He has no natural curiosity left, and I don't think that he will learn anything unless he has that inner motivation. How can I help him regain that spark of natural curiosity?
His homeschool program is very structured, in fact it is actually public school done from home on the computer. Should I try unschooling him? He loves to read books, and I was considering just letting him read to his hearts content and wait for him to initiate/dictate his learning.

A relatively new phenomenon is the unschooling, homeschooling, or self-directed learning center. [15] Some are created for (and often by) existing homeschoolers or unschoolers, while others, like "North Star: Self-Directed Learning for Teens" [16] in Amherst, Massachusetts, often attract people who aren't currently unschoolers (and may never have heard of unschooling), but are interested in using a new form of education.

Specifically for the state of Ohio, if possible.

Does anyone know if it is possible to pull a student out of the public school system after 3 quarters in 8th grade and complete the 8th grade's final quarter through homeschooling?

I will preface this by saying, I won't go into the details of why I'm considering this because 1,000 characters just isn't enough. I will also say, I am generally NOT a big fan of homeschooling. However, I believe my daughter is in a situation with her 8th grade that the administartion is unwilling and maybe unable to resolve.

So is it too late or is it possible to homeschool for just one quarter of a grade? My goal here would be to pull her out at the end of third quarter and then have her start high school next year as planned, the middle school is just a terrible environment now.(and yes, I do believe the problems are not as bad at the high school level, the issues at the middleschool have became so bad due to the inaction of the administration.

When ever I tell someone I homeschool my children I am told they are missing out on social skills. Then yesterday a study came out clearly showing that Childcare causes behavior probems. It is the first study that directly linked Behavior problems with child care. And made it clear that the quality of child care Did Not matter. Quality preschools also caused behavior problems.

Take a look at it. Ever since I pulled my children out of school there behavior has been so much better it is amazing. And my son who used to be shy around other children is now begining to act much more social with the kids in our home school group. I can't help but wonder if in time they will find that public school also has the same negative effect on behavior.
I am not knocking school I am just saying maybe that the social skills the children are learning are not really as good for them as the schools say they are.

Okay well I have a couple of questions about homeschooling:
1. How can I socialize? I have gone to school for about 11 years now and I have a couple of friends. I don't do that well socially in the first place anyway so I don't know if having no social interaction would be a good thing.
2. Can you get in a good ivy league college if you are homeschooled? I know this sounds like a longshot but I want to go to either Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Tulane, UCLA, Rhodes, Columbia, or John Hopkins.
3. My mom works full time so I guess my grandmother (Who is a retired public school teacher.) would have to do it. Also I heard that you have to get some kind of permit and I don't think my mom would be willing to take all that time to do it.
4. I do horseback riding and I would have a lot more time to get practice and get very competitive. Plus, I would have an extra $7,000 a year. (My private school tuition cost $7k a year.)
So what do you think? Thanks for your answers!!

Me and my parents have been thinking about homeschooling for me for about a month or so now. And my parents keep telling me that they'll sign me out of school whenever I felt ready to. (so we could start the homeschooling.) And so just yesterday, I decided I was ready, and I let a couple of my teachers know, since my chior was just about to go on a UIL contest, and he needed to know whether or not I'd be there. But now I'm starting to have second thoughts... like what about my best friend? She is really upset about me leaving.. plus I'll never be able to scelebrate homecoming, or my prom night. But the pros are that I was have more freedom, I can relax a little bit more, ride my bike more, and not have to worry about the peer pressures I get from school. I don't know what to do!!

I am frustrated because I can't remember the user's name and am hoping he/she will run across this posting.
