They are people. They are educated just as kids going to public school are. The pros are that they do not have to sit in a chair all day, they can work at their own pace, and they are safe from drugs, physical and verbal abuse.

Yeah. I was wondering if any people who have been "unschooled" have noticed any positive or negative affects on their life after leaving home.

That seems so cruel to children to deprive them from social interaction with other children. Children need to interact and learn from peers and develop friendships. If you keep them home in the dark they will enter their adult world environment at such a great disadvantage. They will be conned, cheated and ignorant of their world around them.

A friend is going to home school her daughter starting next fall. She will be starting with a kindergarden curriculum. Can anyone give me an average cost for tuition when going through a distance learning program with a private school for it? We found one that was $3650 for the year, is that pretty good or on the high side? Also, anyone with experience going through a private school for this, how much other than the tuition will it likely cost for other supplies and any trips?

TIA

I'm 15, homeschooled and it ROCKS!!! I now own and run a small business with passive income (It deals with electronic sales), get higher SAT scores than my peers and I have colleges checking me out. Many of my fellow homeschooling peers get this as well, yet so many people are against homeschooling.

Oh yes, and don't give me crap about anti-socialism. That's the biggest load of BS! I am in Speech/Debate, martial arts, tennis, Boy Scouts, co-ops and run my business. Don't say I'm not socialized or others are. So many of my friends take part in these activities.......

Why go against homeschooling?

Ok well I became homeschooled about 3 months ago because my school I went to gave me anxiety and etc. And I really want to stay homeschooled...but I'm so afraid of what I'm going to miss out on. High Schools supposed to be the best years of a persons life... and I don't want to miss outon that but I really like being homeschooled a lot.
And then I don't know if I'l get to go to collage if I'm homeschooled
Should I got to school?

Earlier i asked about homeschooling being accepted, i didnt mean that our government didn't accept homeschooling I just meant why does it SOMETIMES get its nosed turned up by other citizens in this country (and others)? In california (I have been told) that it is harder to homeschool than it is in , let's say, Arkansas. I was just wondering why this is? ( I did not mean to um..offend anyone)

I will be home schooling my son (2 1/2 years old), and am trying to figure out what aproch will work best for us. At the monment I am intrested in child-led/unschooling, but as he gets older there will be times when I may incorperate more formal aspects of education.

1) what aproch(es) have you use?
2) what is the basic principals/phlioshopy behing the method?
3) pros and cons- what worked and what didn't?
4) web site or link for more info on the method?

i live in wisconsin and my daughter recieves ssi and badgercare. is there any way i can get an aid to help with homeschooling? she is 12 and above the age for all the programs i know of yet she needs help. i can no longer send her to a pack of lions at school where kids are just cruel and trick her into giving them things(money, jewlery, food)in exchange for freindship and kindness. so please if you are going to be rude to me about whether or not i should take on this challenge think before you speak because this is not an easy decision. my daughter gets tormented and i just cant sit by and watch this happen to her anymore. she is sweet and never mean. i have normal kids too i know both sides of this coin. like i said though school is like sending her to the wolves to be devoured, they rip her to shreds! so i am homeschooling her to help her learn to manage around the house and use a checking acount basic skills so she can care for herself when and if she is able. i just know i will need

I am a successful professional but was an utter failure in school. I now have two kids that are approaching school age. For my own learning I can be very intense about learning a topic when I want to but I don't do well on someone else's structured curriculum.

I would love to instill in my children a passion for learning and I would hate to see them begin to see learning as work. I am tempted by articles I have read about allowing children to pursue topics that interest them at their own pace.

Do you have positive or negative experiences with this kind of education? What would you recommend I read/do to learn more?
