i live in wisconsin and my daughter recieves ssi and badgercare. is there any way i can get an aid to help with homeschooling? she is 12 and above the age for all the programs i know of yet she needs help. i can no longer send her to a pack of lions at school where kids are just cruel and trick her into giving them things(money, jewlery, food)in exchange for freindship and kindness. so please if you are going to be rude to me about whether or not i should take on this challenge think before you speak because this is not an easy decision. my daughter gets tormented and i just cant sit by and watch this happen to her anymore. she is sweet and never mean. i have normal kids too i know both sides of this coin. like i said though school is like sending her to the wolves to be devoured, they rip her to shreds! so i am homeschooling her to help her learn to manage around the house and use a checking acount basic skills so she can care for herself when and if she is able. i just know i will need

I really have nothing to add to what thinkini and Skye have said but I wanted to give you my support for your decision. You may like it so much you'll decided to home school your other children too.

I really know what you mean. I have a 9 year old son, who has autistic characteristics. I have taken him out of public schools, and into a private school, where basically what I do is homeschooling. ITS TOUGH! I also have a 1 yr old to keep up with, so somedays my 9 yr old does not get that much of my time. I have a battle in my mind about what to do with him, if I should keep him home or send him back. Is your daughter in special ed classes? They had my son in a special class of 6 students all with a developmental delay, so there was no taking advantage of other children going on. Anyways, back to your question...I am not sure that you can get an aid, because you will be taking your child out of the public education system, so they won't help you out any. You could pay for a tutor, but expect it to be pricey. I hope that it works out for you and your girl. Certainly no one deserves to be treated the way she has.

I have a friend who had a job like this when she was in school. She helped people homeschool their kids and made sure they had everything they needed. She had a few clients that had developmental challenges and paid extra attention to their needs. She worked for the state, I believe the Department of Education. Try calling them and seeing if they offer this service where you live. If not, they probably know where you could find someone. Good luck to you and your daughter I think she will do just fine :)

I applaud you for your decision, we too, have a child with extra challenges. Because of the "wolves"situation have decided to home school and have done so successfully for 4 years! It can be done! I am a little confused about the aid part. But maybe this will help. The board of education in your county still has to provide services for you child even if you child is not going to public school. Now it is a battle to get the help but it is so worth it! I would check with your covering and the home school legal team in your area on if they can go with you to facilitate this or not. We have gotten special help with private lesson with a special ed teacher 3 times a week. We did not play around with the local school, go right to the board and speak to the director of special ed for the county your living in. they provide class room aids for him and the books. It has worked for us, and helps me with the transitional stuff. Please know you have taken on a huge challenge but there is nothing more rewarding then watching it click on the good days.......

Wow! First of all I have to applaud you for your courage. Having a special needs child tests all our strengths. I have found that here, in Oregon, I get more help from the school system itself than anywhere else. They see that I have the materials I need to teach, have helped me with a tutor, just to give me a break and they have even given me the option to send my granddaughter to certain classes, like PE and art where they will send her tutor to be with her so she can have some ( they call it structure, I call it protection). I completely understand when you say feed her to the wolves cause that sure seems to be the way it is and homeschooling is what seems to be best for all concerned. Talk to your local school district and see what they have to offer. Good luck and congrats for being a very caring mom. (my granddaughter is 16)

I don't live in WI, but I am starting to homeschool my 4 yr old who is autistic. I'm just wondering, why do you need an aid? Is it just so you have some additional help? Also, where is Choe's Autism Group? I just checked on Yahoo groups and didn't see anything under that name. I would like to join!

Hi me once more! I spoke back this beforehand whilst you requested, and I'm so completely happy you requested once more! I researched this tuition and determined a entire segment on monetary support! You must appear into it I'm certain it might paintings! Please do not pay attention to that different man or woman at the different query who stated your baby may not be a functioning member of society : ( They evidently recognize not anything approximately what specified schooling can do for anybody who demands it. I do not feel you must promote your apartment considering that you might have different youngsters to feel approximately however I extremely endorse you appear into that monetary support detail I noticed. I want the first-rate of success for you and your baby and the relaxation of your household (:

If your local and state won't help u go to the Us dept of ED. grants also can be an option. Church groups often homeschool and can be a support network to u and ur daughter!

i would check with the schools.. and the social services.. doctors.. lions club..salvation army,... any one you can think of and if they tell you they can not help ask them if they know of a group that may can help you.. normally i don't believe in home schooling but in your case i agree 100% percent.. i would not want to send my daughter or son to that type enviorment.. and yes children can be the meanest things on this earth..but sadly they are just acting the way their parents do behind the doors where society can not see them.. but the children do..

If you're applying her SSI to her expenditures that might not leave you with much to pay an aid. You may want to consider doing some research on special schools that are designed for children with learning disabilities. I was in a school for 13 years for children with learning disabilties and it was a lot easier for me since you had the normal school environment with smaller classes. Doesnt hurt to research.
