I will be home schooling my son (2 1/2 years old), and am trying to figure out what aproch will work best for us. At the monment I am intrested in child-led/unschooling, but as he gets older there will be times when I may incorperate more formal aspects of education.

1) what aproch(es) have you use?
2) what is the basic principals/phlioshopy behing the method?
3) pros and cons- what worked and what didn't?
4) web site or link for more info on the method?

Thanks ~Raven Rose~

1. I'm rather eclectic: a mix of letting the kids pick, having me pick, sometimes using workbooks, incorporate Charlotte Mason ideas here and there...

2. Basic principle is to use what works (even if you have two vastly different approaches to two different subjects) and be flexible.

3. Pros: you're never stuck with just following one style and trying to fit your child to it. Cons: you do end up constantly making decisions about how to go about something

4. http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/methods/Eclectic.htm

Our son is 6 and we are holding off homeschool for a few more years. We've done a bit of Phonics this years & some math when he's been interested. Mostly we work on science type of projects & construction things which is a lot of play - that's the best kind of learning. He likes working with his hands & loves ropes & leverage. Even at this early age I've found that when you do the things they're interested in they learn so much better.

When our son was 3 he was helping with laundry - mostly folding socks and wash clothes, and helping measure & stir in the kitchen. He still gets to do those things and more.

I've read a lot about the Moore Formula:

That's the route we plan on taking.

We use a variety of things- mainly the Charlotte Mason method.

You can find out a lot about various styles/methods in the Elijah Company Resource Guide. It has good info on all the major methods, their weaknesses and strengths,etc.(http://www.elijahcompany.com/help/index2.htm) it is definetly worth the money!

Lots of good articles on http://www.homeschooloasis.com - they mainly use Wisdom's Way or learning but it overlaps with Charlotte Mason somewhat.
