Absolutely, positively, the first thing you need to do is get a copy of the homeschooling laws in your state. It is also a very good idea to join a homeschool support group. Set goals and start slow. Good luck, and congratulations on your excellent choice.

You will get lots of help from lots of people if you ask specific questions.
1. Use a good math program; We like Saxon math. It is incremental and works well with self-teaching.
2. Have your students write a full page every day --- copy work for younguns and creative essays for the olders.
3. Supply an ample amount of fiction and nonfiction in the form of excellent literature, science and history --- the children should read for a minimum of 2 hours at their own level.
Start out simple and stick to the basics of math, writing and reading.
Join a local activity group. Get together with other people that are also home-schooling.
Contact any of the home-school answers people that you can tell are giving good answers and ask for more help.

http://www.visionforum.com is one of the best websites to get homeschooling material. Check out the book, "Safely Home".
Like everyone else is saying, visit http://www.hslda.org
Note: It's http://www.hslda.org not .com (although that works too.) HSLDA = Home School Legal Defense Association. Great Company! Sign up with them, the've helped us a LOT!

K12 online academy might be something to look into. It is only available in some states though.
http://www.k12.com
at the top of the page there is a tab where you can check the availability in your state. They offer a predesigned online learning program, or you can just purchase materials independantly. My son has been doing k12 (virtual academy) since the beginning of this year and I think it's a wonderful program.
