Yes, I homeschool my kids. I love it, and so do they! So much flexibility, so much real living rather than sitting in a desk most of the day. Wouldn't trade it for the world with my kids at the age they're at.
It's great you love biology. So many naysayers seem to think that homeschooled kids don't do science.

I think if done for the right reasons and if the parents (or other educator) are motivated enough to really help the student, homeschooling can be a fantastic opportunity.
I was homeschooled for most of my education, I only attended a public school for about 2 1/2 years. However, during high school, I found that I was outgrowing a lot of the materials available, so I decided to take my courses at a local community college. I enrolled in my first class at age 15, and by time I graduated highschool, I had also earned my associates degree. I was the youngest graduate the college had ever seen, I had just turned 17 two weeks before graduation and at the ceremony I received a standing ovation from the entire graduating class!
Now I am at a University and am set to graduate with a double major and honors (if all goes well), from a college recently ranked top 10, and from a program ranked #1 in the nation. At the time of graduation I will be 19, so obviously I have a strong argument against those that would say "those kids aren't taught well".
That said, it doesn't work for everybody. The student must be motivated to learn on their own, and they must have a strong support network. I know I wouldn't have been able to achieve everything I have done without the guidance of many people along the way, especially my parents and certain professors at that community college.
I would also like to add, that I do not think homeschooling causes individuals to become "socially awkward". While I am not the most popular person on campus, I am not a loner, and have made many friends. I do not need any special attention from the teachers, my classmates do not find me particularly awkward, and most people are shocked to discover my age because they would never think that I was any different from the rest of the students. It has probably helped that I have had past classroom experiences, but you do not need to constantly be in a classroom to develop social skills, you just need to socialize. To say anything else reflects a poor understanding of the nature of homeschooling. We are not locked in a room alone and told to do our work, we go outside just like everybody else, and more importantly, we meet people! Most cities have groups of homeschoolers, and if not, you can always join other after-school activities like a sports team.

I currently homeschool my two children. I originaly only started with my daughter. I was asked by a religious group to help teach at a cooperarative home school as I have a teaching credential but I choose not to teach where I live. I decided it was a good idea and my daughter wanted to join so I started homeschooling her. My son did not want to at first. I did not want to force him, but by mid year his grades had dropped from As and Bs to Cs and Ds. What was worse he was tested in writing and recieved the best grade in school on the test. But can you believe it, He was recieving an F as a writing grade. I considered changing his teacher but I had previously worked for a nearby school and I am perfectly aware that if a child's parent chooses to change teachers, most of the time they are branded a trouble maker. So I decided he needed to be homeschooled also. Now he Loves it also. He wants to be homeschooled all through high school. I am not sure if I want to do that as I had originaly planned on homeschooling them until they could enter a great charter school for high school.
I think if we were homeschooling alone it would have been a lot harder. But we have joined with a group so we have a lot of fun together and we all worked together to find the best text books instead of your typical homeschool books. And we do a lot of fun things to learn. Tomorrow we start planting a garden. Our kids love "school". And my kids are so much happier than they ever were before.
Homeschool is great!
Also ignore the stuff people say about having "trained" teachers. I am very trained, yet in public school all you have time to do is give out assignments from the book, do dittos, and occasionally do a special project. You spend so much time on test prep and dealing with dicipline issues you really can not teach in the way they teach you to in college.
WIthout the beurocracy you can do far better. Just the one on one attention and the ability to allow a child to work at their own pace is so much better for a child. Studies have proven it over and over. If a parent is able to follow through and homeschool the children do far better academicly than the kids who go to public school. The parents who will not be able to follow through figure that out fairly quickly and the kids return to school.

I was homeschooled for the last two years of high school, and I much preferred it to public school. Public school wasn't bad. I just preferred homeschooling. And I was in no way socially inept. Ask all of my friends.

*hee hee hee* LOL! I've ALWAYS been Homeschooled--never been to public or "private" school-- I'm glad you like it so much :) I like it mostly because of all the extra time I have in my day, opposed to public school children, and the extra things I get to learn because of it. My brother goes to a boarding school up in Georiga, and because we're all homeschooled, it's a lot easyer then it would be if we had to check with the school and change dates and things like that. Agian--I'm glad you like it :D P.S. I love English and word comprehension.

My only experience was that my cousin did it and her son turned out to be socially inept. he's maybe 13 now and rather odd.
if you continue, arrange day groups or other social activities frequently.
