Well, I have asked a couple questions about unschooling and from the answers I received on here I have decided that I'm going to eclectic homeschooling instead. I'm not able to let my daughter lead herself without some input from me. So now I'm changing sides and wondered if anyone had advice on eclectic homeschooling...thanks!

criticize the parents who send their kids to boarding schools?
you're so quick to condemn parents who are trying to be involved, loving parents who diligently pursue the best for our kids, what's your position of parents who ship off their kids for most, if not all, of the year?

or is that your idea of some first-rate "socialization"?

Yahoo questions is a great forum for everyone to share their thoughts and opinions. And yes I agree that this is a free country and we all have our right to speak, my husband has been to IRAQ and back to fight for everyone's freedoms - so don't go there. I just don't understand why some people feel as though they should answer a valid question with sarcasm or just plain meanness. If you can't be helpful - answer another question where your input can do someone some good. Could someone please explain to me why people think it is a GOOD thing to bash folks who just want a little help educating their children?

I am not home-schooled, but I recently met my friend's neighbor, a homeschooled kid my age. He looked lonely, and seemed as if he hadn't a friend in the world. Of course I was friendly to him, but I shook his hand I was wondering if homeschooling hurts kids more than helps them......

I appreciate everyones opinions, INSULTS of my intelligence, corrections, and facts stated in my previous "homeschool" questions, but I just wanted to know what aspects about public schools do u like, if any?

I wasn't trying to knock homeschooling, I just asked questions and had opiniated statements to get some honest, blunt, yet defensive feedback. Just trying to understand the reasons why people homeschool.

I respect the whole homeschooling thing. I have the patience to deal with my child, but its not for me. I just feel that EVERY CHILD should experience a traditional classroom @ LEAST ONE YEAR in there life.

If you live in a rural/suburban/urban area and you home school your child, how far is the nearest public/private school from your home? Did u decide to home school your child for your/their convenience?

i need a curriculum that has books and supplies for preschool-12 grade. and if my kids follow through the whole thing they will get every credit they need for high school. it's easy to teach, kids enjoy it, and it doesn't cost a million dollars. and also could any homeschool moms/dads tell me what their daily schedule is. i have 13 kids (12 of them i will be teaching) and we live on a farm, so they also have their chores. they are going into grades: preschool, kindergarten, 2 second graders, 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, 2 seventh graders, 9th grade, and 12 th grade. thanks for any info.

Ive never been home schooled and neither will my sons, but I just wanted to know what is the big deal for a child to go to public/private school?

I've noticed that numerous people on this forum have stated children who are homeschooled have a social disadvantage. Then SOME parents were on the defensive by saying "There child has friends that they interact with on a daily basis." What?? 5-10 children from the neighborhood? Please. Whats wrong with having different friends from different neighborhoods?

As a child, there is NO experience like a walk/bus to school with your friends, LEARNING IN A CLASSROOM SETTING(even if it includes a little classroom banter, thats what kids do), playing @ recess with your friends, walking home from school, doing homework/class projects with your parents. For those who had a traditional public/private school education who have decided to NOT allow your child to have the joyous experiences you had as a child, WHY? Did you NOT enjoy "being a kid

I have been doing some research on the homeschooling laws in Kentucky where we live, and I was surprised to find out we are required to keep an attendance record, even if there's just one child. Do you keep attendance, and if so, what program or system do you use?

I think homeschooling can be great but I don't know why so my christians do it- is it to teach religious beliefs as part of the ciriculum (sp?) or to keep their kids away from the influences of strangers?

I have a 4 and a 3 yr old , I was wondering if I can homeschool my kids. I speak Romanian and French and my English is ok but not perfect , I do not know a lot about education here in the US, but I heard the schools&teachers here don't have high standards of education , not to mention the moral values in the schools today . I heard the students don't have any respect for the teacher, are noisy in the classroom , they don't learn too much , which made me think about homeschool , but I am not to confident I can do it, especially that I am not a teacher. I consider myself educated, I went to nursing college in Europe , and know a lot about History,Geography,Chemistry,Biology etc
but I still don't know how to teach my kids and what they should learn . Also I have limited resources to buy curriculums when the public school is free. What do you think about public schools are they that bad?

the biggest one is, I really don't know what to expect. I have 13 children (it's a long story). the oldest is in college, the youngest in preschool. the main reason I'm considering is because at the elementary school that 6 of my kids go to, the other children will not leave my 9 yo alone, they call her names and make fun of her for being adopted (i've raised hell at the office, and yet nothing has happened). and my other kids stand up for her, and sometimes fights break out ending in my kids getting suspended. we were thinking about transfering all 6 of them to a different school, but the same problem may arise. and if i home school the 6 of them, then my 3 middle schoolers, and 2 high schoolers, and preschooler with also want to be homeschooled (they've been begging to be since day 1). so it would be 12 of them, all day, all alone with just me. of course, i have all summer to figure out what I'll be doing, but i would like some advice please. any and all kinds are welcome. thank you.

I am a stay-at-home mom so I need to do it as inexpensively as possible. Does anyone have suggestions for free or low-cost materials on the Web?

My son got straight A's in all of his classes except for Language Arts. He got an F in that. As a result, the school is holding him back, which I think is totally ridiculous. I would like to work on his skills over the summer. What are some good sites where I can find Language arts lesson plans for 6th graders? I have found some, but they either require a fee, or they are for much younger children. Also, what do you suggest we do? Worksheets? Try to read more books?

When I was married to my ex husband I homeschooled my step son with fantastic results. Now I'm remarried, and no longer a stay at home mom. My own son HATES the school he goes to, and for the first time he is having problems and will probably be held back this year. He has always liked school before, and was in a gifted program in his other school, but since moving here with my new husband, he's had problems. He doesn't get along with the teachers, and the kids bully him a lot. I am not happy with the school here either, and would love to homeschool him. However, when asked about it, he said no, he doesn't want to be homeschooled. I'm torn. I want to homeschool, but I'm not sure I could do it, as I work part time and go to school myself full time. Plus if he doesn't want to be homeschooled, how could I? I just hate to see a once bright kid who liked school being held back this year.

I want to homeschool my 2 year old daughter preschool teachings. But then I want her to go to a public school for kindergarten through 4th grade and then homeschooling her for 5th grade through 8th grade and her finishing high school at a public school. Will this effect her?

So my boyfriend's parents did drugs and lived in nearly abandoned houses with 7 children. When he was in 8th grade, and his sister was in 10th they asked them if they wanted to stay home (they told them it was homeschool) so they could watch the other children.

Anyway, they probably didnt have a correct address to their house....and my bf basically didnt have any schooling past half of 8th grade. Now that he isnt a child anymore, he really regrets it and despised his parents for letting him ruin his life.

I dont understand how they could have gotten away with it?

In my Ethics class (udergraduate extra credit), the question that was posed was "does home schooling teach children about the world or does it protect them from it".
Please discuss.

I have a child going into 2nd that I'm considering using abeka, a child going into 8th which I'm considering using a combination of BobJones DVD and Abeka math and language and a kindergartender which I intend to just use Abeka. But I'm afraid that if I fail, it will really, really delay them and hurt them. What is your routine and what curriculum have you found to be the best. Keep in mind, I MUST work part-time for financialy reasons. I work 11-7, 3 nights a week. Help and suggestions please.
