I had a 4.23GPA from up to my Junior year so I decided to take 4 A.P. Courses for my senior year ( I thought I could handle it). However at the end of the first semester my GPA is a 3.0 and I have a "D" (66.7%) in A.P. Chemistry. I now have 4 Cs and 1 A and 1 B+.
I decided to switch into College Prep Chemistry for my second semester because I need to get rid of the D on my transcript and decrease my work load. I'm going to tell the UCs I'm applying to about the change (Irvine,Berkley, Davis,LA,SB)
I was wondering whether it was still possible for me to get into the UCs with such a big drop in my GPA from Junior Year and a D.
Also I was wondering what I should tell them to improve my chances .
Thanks.

1) What role has race play in your life?
2) If there is one thing you want to tell the world about how you feel, what would you want others to know?

I have an associates from community college, but is a real college/university life different? I hear stuff all the time, someone told me that college is not hard it's game and once you figure it out its easy. What does that mean?
I plan on taking 18 credits and getting done in 3 semesters, is that too much?

Hey.. let me tell you a lil about myself first. I have a 3.9 unweighted GPA, involved in a lot of clubs like fbla, tutoring, national honor society, french honor society, french club, diversity awareness, and more. I'm in 3 AP classes this year, and took 2 last year. I haven't taken the SATS or ACTS yet. (I take them in april + may) I really want to go out of state for college (i live in colorado). I want to maybe go to new york or maybe california.. Do you have any colleges you recommend based on my academics? Is it possible to apply to cornell or any ivy with these grades? If not, where do you recommend? *i have no idea what i want to major in college. something in business maybe.. * I'm also planning on early decision my senior year. is that a good idea? I"m talking to my counselor about this in like 3 weeks or something, but i'm just curious. Thanks.

Those with accounting experience:

I'm thinking about pursuing a degree in accounting. Can accounting be enjoyable at all? I'm not a math genius, do you need to be one? However, I enjoyed math in school when I understood it and I like keeping mine and my husband's finances/bills organized. I'm a real stickler about it. I got straight A's in school, (high school and previous, haven't started college yet) so I believe I have the brains for it...(I think...?) Is it a good career to pursue? Could I ever do it from home?

Thanks!

1. Do colleges really pay attention to your Freshman year grades? I know some colleges don't, but how about Ivy Leagues? Or the less better Ivy Leagues like UPenn, Brown, Dartmouth, Cornell and Columbia?
2. Do you know of teachers who actually change students' grades to A's if they get a 5 on their AP exam? I heard of teachers in my school doing that but I'm not sure.
3. Sometimes difficult colleges (like some Ivy Leagues) have a good load of students who have GPA's lower than 3.5. What other factors do colleges monitor closely?
4. So is it true that applying to college is a random chance: good grades and academic acheivement don't surely promise acceptance into a good school?

I received my masters degree in 2006 and am thinking of heading back to earn a PhD in political science/public policy. For those who've gone on to PhD programs, how difficult are doctoral studies compared to masters work?

This has nothing to do with helping me decide whether to get a PhD; rather, I'm just curious about how it stacks up to a masters.

Thanks!

I have started writing my essay for NYU college app. however I'm stuck & I don't know how I should continue this. In other words, should I start elaborting on something?what should I talk about now? please help this is my essay so far.."Fantasy is what they want, but reality is what they need." Nine out of tens times, if someone were to turn on a radio, they would hear a song, whose lyrics identify something or in some cases, a life they could only dream of living. The beat is enticing, and the lyrics may say something like, "…i've got so many houses, cars, and dollar bills" However, Lauryn Hill has chosen to retire from the fantasy part of things. Of the many albums I have heard and liked, my favorite is Lauryn Hill's MTV Unplugged album. I love this album because it is a lot different from the popular music that we hear on the radio today. " how can i continue...what 2 talk about now?
