You need to graduate with a BS degree, probably a major in chemistry, biology or biochemistry

You need to take a lot of very tough courses in college, including all the prereqs to get into med school. This would include chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, calculus.

You need to maintain about a 3.5 to 3.8 GPA in your science and math courses.

Then you need to take the MCAT exams - sort of like the SAT only harder.

Then you need to apply to med school, go to med school for four years, take a series of tough tests, graduate from med school, get accepted at at neurosurgical residency, spend about 6- 8 years as a post graduate medical resident or fellow, and then you go before a board of neurosurgeons and they give you a tough exam and if you pass, you are a neurosurgeon - you are also about 35 years old and $300 -$400,000 in debt.

Have fun!

Matts answer is 100% true. Being a general doctor isnt an easy path. Its not like you say "I want to be a doctor, get some respect, and get rich!" and just go for it. The requirements are quite difficult and the MCAT (trust me on this one) is hard. Remember the SATs and ACTs? Well taking the MCAT makes them seem like eating pie. (with your favorite flavor of course). I'm going to be 100% honest and call me an @$$-hole if you want but really, theres 2 things about this question.

1) You're not serious and only joking about the concept of being a neurosurgeon, or you've watched too much grey's anatomy, scrubs, or any other medical shows that gloryizes the medicine workers. Not that thats a bad thing. But really, I'd have to say you're completely joking because of 2 reasons. First, you're in community college. To be honest, I dont think its a financial situation for you. It rarely is for people and even when it is, they usually work very hard the first 2 years and change to a better college more deserving of their talents. Reason 2 is simple. You've scored Cs-Ds through Highschool, occasionally got a B- to B in HS and an unimaginably low SAT score and no college but community would accept you. So now you're... you know what? I'm going to be 100% honest and open now. If you're going into a community college, then the chances of you becomming even a surgeon is less than 1%. Even a dental surgeon has to be the top of his classes /exceptionally elite in academics and real life practices to earn his position. A person who goes to community college for 4 years has litterally no hope of being succesful in the field of medicine. Now there are always going to be people who tell you "never give up!" or "just put your heart in it and you can do it!" but in reality?...uh no. If it'll make you feel better, just watch Will Smith's new movie. See what happens to him? Yeah less than 0.1% of the U.S. population from 1776 to 2006, have EVER accomplished something like that. The rates are too low for anyone to put their bets on it if they're not already a genius. So in a word made simple, go for a McDonalds manage position before anything else.
