What role has race play in your life? (If you're Asian please answer)?

I am doing a research for my ethnic studies class and need some help. If you're Asian please answer the following question.

1) What role has race play in your life?
2) If there is one thing you want to tell the world about how you feel, what would you want others to know?

Answer 1

1) Thankfully I live in a very tolerant society that embraces diversity. That being said, I'm wholly aware that I am Asian in a predominantly white society - as such, when I'm with my (for the most part) caucasian friends, I tend to stand out. In other situations, when I'm with my girlfriend (who is also caucasian), we are not treated wtih the same regard that other similar raced couples may enjoy. Also, I am assumed to be a certain way when I go to asian restaurants. In the end though, these are all superficial. I bear no grudge, nor have a chip on my shoulder - that's because my friends accept me for who I am, I suprise people sometimes with the fact that I am so cultured/assimilated, and my race has never closed important doors to me.

2) Like most ethnic people, it's probably that although many traits can be associated with one race over another, that in today's age, everything is unpredicatble - so don't ever prejudge a book by its cover: be it an asian, latino, caucasian, african-american, or whatever person - in the end they can all be equally brilliant or dumb!

Answer 2

1) Nothing major. Have only had a few racist experience. Very annoyed at affirmative action, altho I've managed to overcome the disadvantages it puts on me.
2) Asians get discriminated against as well. We get screwed from both sides. So, when someone pulls the race card, I get doubly annoyed.

Answer 3

Race has been bad for me because I am not a very fast runner. For that reason I don't like racing.
